I think they were afraid of Checko’s car falling out on the track and extending the SC period.
Yeah I thought this but then thought he wasn't between him and Ham. He must have been. I thought retiring wasn't allowed unless your car genuinely had a problem but I'm sure there are some easy loopholes there as they can just say a sensor is showing high values or whatever. It was to get him out of the way of Max when RB thought they would have to clear all the lapped cars
Red Bull only succeeded because the rules were changed. Mercedes made the correct call for Lewis under the safety car because there wasn't enough time for a full racing lap with them next to each other under the regulations.
That would be pretty sad if they responded quite petulantly like that. Lewis responded brilliantly straight after the race in interview and was very graceful in defeat. Showing maturity, rather than the brattish behaviour we often see from drivers.I think Merc should just pull out of F1. They don't need it and its probably costing them money to be there...
What games could they be playing?
Some kind of mechanical issues, I think. Don't think they said on the broadcast.
Anything to back that up?
It’s reckoned Mercedes being in F1 and winning is the equivalent of a $2 Billion annual advertising spend. Also Merc won the Constructors that's where the money is, they make zero out of the drivers championship. (Probably saved a few quid on a win bonus for Lewis too...)

If this race was earlier in the season, all cars would have have been allowed to unlap and Lewis would have won under the safety car. Guaranteed. Massi got swayed under pressure by Horner and broke the rules.
Needs the Fixed Pancake option. We need multi-votes on that poll, 10+fix is the only correct option
They should appeal, I think there's a case with it clearly stating in the sporting regs that 'once the lapped cars have passed the leader, the safety car will return to the pits at the end of the following lap.'
That would be pretty sad if they responded quite petulantly like that.
Why did Perez retire? Were RB playing games there?

Yes and I apologise.
Reading some of the bias nonsense winds me up. And that’s without the dodgy race decisions
They wouldn't want to risk another VSC or extending the SC had he been forced to retire on track.
