Abu Dhabi Prix 2015, Yas Marina - Race 19/19

They need to give up on things like Monaco, it has absolutely no place for modern F1 racing.

Completely agree on Monaco. There's only so long that romance, history and nostalgia can keep that track going, and they all left a long time ago. It is less relevant to sponsors than many of the Asian and Middle East races, Singapore in particular. But still it goes on.

Still, we all know that common sense is easily trumped by money in F1 plus it is home race for half the drivers.

Would you rather have Monaco or another Tilke Drone in Khazakstan?

At least Monaco is a challenge to the drivers. You could build a small housing estate on the tarmac run off at any modern track.

Hamilton fangirl answer - 'Merc are deliberately screwing him to let Rosberg win!!!'
Rosberg fangirl answer - 'Rosberg has raised his game and will win the title next year!!!'
Everyone else answer - 'Just one of those things'

:)

Monaco is going nowhere. It's the only race that pays no hosting fee which shows its place on the calendar. Sponsors would go mental if they were to drop it. It's Monaco to Schmooze the European sponsors and Singapore for the Asian sponsors.

I'd rather have Khazakstan. Monaco is no more challenge to the drivers than any circuit other than one or two laps in Q3. It is no challenge managing the tyres the way they do now.

If I want to watch a good race in Monaco then I'll watch a replay from years ago. It is also the worst experience I've had as a spectator. The driving (it really isn't racing 99% of the time) is boring.

Was out today but watched on iPlayer when I got in - ended up skimming through it, another tedious procession.

Just about had enough of F1. The only hope for next year is that Ferrari can step up and genuinely challenge Mercedes, otherwise it's a bust.

Meanwhile Audi are entering next year's WEC championship with the Batmobile:

F1 you're a joke. Sort yourself out.

Its hilarious that the FIA have made such a balls up of the nose regulations in F1 because they needed to ban high noses because they are dangerous, and now WEC, FE and GP2, all FIA regulated series, have high noses!

Yeah it's a high nose but you have a lot more frontal area that will likely hit anything at the same time, distributing the load. On an F1 car the nose if the first strong component to make contact with anything.

Stuck with it this season, only missed a few races because of other commitments but watched about 90% of races.

Fallen asleep in many of them. Apart from literally a few races this season it's been dire to watch; not so much the Mercedes procession (that's just their superior engineering) but the non event the racing is. Can't follow, tire and fuel management, team orders (Ham has let his foot off the gas towards the end and Merc are obviously keeping Rosberg happy) adds up to boring races. This season I've also really noticed the more modern circuits just aren't that good, F1 needs to keep the 'classic' tracks in there. Hopefully Germany (either one) is back next year.

I'm finding the GP2 feature and sprint races far more entertaining, even on the Tilke tracks. They're all in the same car, same engines and there's some really bloody good drivers. There's just so much more action.

I'm not going to pretend I know how to fix F1, because I don't. I just want to it be more exciting again, as we all do.

I had to go out as soon as the race finished so was about to ask what happened on the podium that deserves a gif.

Boring race though, interesting first couple of laps and the tiny chance of Hamilton challenging for the lead at the end but the 40 laps in the middle - yawn.

A bland ending to another bland season unfortunately. Even the general media is giving it a wide berth, the Daily Mail for example have about 100 sports stories from football to MMA yet only one tiny story about todays F1 and it's the same for most online news outlets.

No-one cares about it anymore, it's seen as boring and sadly its a true statement for most people.

I think it's people in this country that no longer care, even with a British Champion. I can't comment on the rest of the world but here barely anyone talks about it anymore. Different times, so much more choice and sundays used to be about a roast dinner and F1. Those days are long gone.

Kids don't want to talk about F1 or even watch it in this country. There's nothing to hook a new user base in this country for the future. But the story could be different everywhere else in the world, enough for them not to care.

I've lost interest myself, barely read about it or posted much about it. My Sky goes after xmas as I struggle to sum up the interest to watch a live race.

Oh well, 85 days to go until 2016 testing starts :)

I find these days it goes so much quicker when you are glad to see the back of a season and not fussed when the new one starts :D

I realised how much of a nightmare F1 is the other day when me and a another F1 fan friend were trying to explain F1 to another friend who doesn't watch it at all. Trying to explain such gems as:

* DRS
* Why the tyres wear out as they do
* Maldonado
* Why do Alonso and Button stay at McLaren if they are terrible
* Why are McLaren terrible
* Why are some engines better than others and why cant the others close the gap
* The new engines compared to the old ones
* Qualifying
* Why had Hamilton been cack since winning the title

Basically what we came to realise is that F1 isn't just a pick up and start watching kind of deal you have to clue yourself up first. Whereas most will probably lose interest before then...

If anything what most interested him was when some of the drivers wives/Carmen Jorda popped up on screen. Maybe F1 should just pad out the races with more video of them?? :o:cool::D

That is so very easy to answer, in fact you pretty much did answer it by saying

F1 should just be a level up from GP2.

All in the same chassis, with the same engines still hybrid if that's what they really want, (although give them way more power than GP2) build the chassis with minimal aero, (say wings quarter the physical size in every dimension, of what is there now), so its far more mechanical grip dominating over aero grip, and they can all run closer and overtake without issue, will make action much more entertaining, with cars sliding and drifting about more.

This of course will never happen, but is a very easy way to fix F1.
