Accident with cyclist - Seeking advice

Should have 0% credit carded the damage if you didn't have the cash, as has already been said, you'll probably pay more than that over the next few years in increased premiums.

Insurance companies dont ask for claims or convictions anymore. They ask if you've had any accidents of convictions. The OP would have to declare it anyway.

Deny everything :D

Its a criminal action though failure to report a motor vehicle collision. When it involves a lesser species, erm I mean pedestrian/cyclist its even more of an issue as you know they are more likely to not be covered under a policy and as such far more likely to claim PI.

I would say if its 50/50 then your far better off reporting, if you don't and the other party does, you look far more at fault and its more likely to go against you.
Insurance is funny though, they cant go against the laws of the road so thats often why people feel they shouldn't have lost a case when the highway code is clear they were wrong.

The system is so one sided, a lot don't get reported by the driver. A cyclist once went in to me at a junction (their own fault) and I never reported it, pulled the face dent out myself and nothing ever came of it.

Yes there is a point when reporting becomes silly, but imagine if 6 months in that cyclist decided to pursue you for damages. It gets nasty then.
Your far better off disposing of the body, far harder to make a spurious claim against you then ;)

I doubt it, I sold the car almost a year ago and they didn't even note my registration. They might have reported it and they were just waiting for someone to come forward and drop themselves in it, but I'm not a mug :p

Plot twist - Had a letter dated November 21st from 'GC Solictors' saying their client holds me liable and has submitted it to my insurers via their portal.

They are claiming up to £25,000 damages! It states he was only off work 15 days.

Ridiculous. Is he paid £8500 a week??

The report also states the reason he was on the path was to go down an underpass below a roundabout.

That's 500 metres down the road from here

As a cyclist and pedestrian who's never driven a car in his life I still think he had absolutely no right to be miffed about that, let alone 25k's worth of miffed. But life's not fair and claims culture is a cancer, so I'll wish you good luck. Not that you ought to need it with that footage to support you.

The portal works on set values of claims so its likely the claim is valued up to, but not in excess of £25k. The solicitors tend to over cost everything anyway so what they ask for and what they want is usually different.

Actually isn't th amount a good thing. If it was £2k the insurance might just pay it. If hes going for a LOT more then maybe they are more likely to fight it?

Weak excuse. It doesn't make it any less illegal.

Maybe you should report him to the police for riding on the pavement.
