Accident

wow. lots of damage for "40mph"!!

what is interesting though is how much "better" the modern car came off compared to yours, but then his hadnt jumped a concrete barrier

bad luck though, hope it gets sorted out soon

looks like a Corolla Verso judging by that toyota grill.
i'm guessing that didn't come off the Supra :p

Yeah it is a Corolla Verso.

I'd guess that most of the bodywork (bumper, wings) on my car would have been ripped off by the concrete and that would have also shunted the radiator and intercooler upwards as in the picture. The impact from the other car, from what I remember was front/side so they would have had the front crash bar to absorb most the impact?

All in all, I think the car, structurally, did its job of protecting me, and considering what happened, could have been a lot worse!

Sorry to hear that fella. Tis a shame, such a nice car.

But you are ok, that's all that matters :)

Posting this on OcUK is like dividing by Zero, in OcUK land RWD is absolutely the same in FWD as far as 'chance of having a moment' goes :p

Glad you are ok. Hope it goes well for you. I'm no crash investigator but looking at the surroundings being in a residential area etc etc its hard to see how you could end up like that

Another Supra or perhaps something FWD next? :p

Series of unfortunate events really, accelerating to change lanes, probably just catching 2nd turbo spool up, losing traction potentially over a white lane marker and then spinning across with the gathered momentum :( Or any of the above!

Next car is going to be largely depdndant on what I can insure lol :p

Wow, looks like a nasty collision. You were lucky and unlucky in the same accident. Glad you weren't hurt other than pride.

Really gutted for you mate, the car looked stunning from the pics on your profile website.

How did the other passengers / witnesses react after the crash? Did anyone have a go at you?

Also how was the car insured? Will you just get book price for it, if so I guess that's a lot of money lost? :(

Fingers crossed you don't come away with a charge, but got to say it doesn't look to good and I think stereotyping will unfortunately come into it. Good luck!

Oh Six6!
Makes me sad to see another uk manual dead but at least you didn't do it being silly. Glad it appears nobody was injured in any case.

Let us hope the witnesses weren't blinded by the decals, eh.

Are these cars prone to throwing themselves across central reservations in residential areas into oncoming traffic when being driven normally?

If so, shouldn't VOSA be issuing vehicle recalls?

You have a point, but none of us bar the OP were actually there so it'd be ill advised to speculate on what actually happened when he seems somewhat unsure himself. It could have been for all sorts of reasons, and frankly, it looks bad enough already, I'm sure the OP doesn't really want to hear that.

^^ my thoughts too

It's not normal. It's not something that happens when driving within limits - no matter how bad the conditions may have been. Therefore, it's abnormal.

Then why post on the intarwebby?

OP. Your sig needs sorting ;)

Have to agree

personally i think you gave it too much and ran out of talent.

But hey, thats no bad thing. We're all human right ? nobody is perfect. Ive run out of talent and crashed cars before, as have most. Even the almighty fox has done that :D

Key thing is that you learn from it :)

Err?

2JZGTE cars have a habit of being unpredictable at the best of times when the 2nd turbo spools up, It is the nature of having a sequential twin turbocharger setup and From what I understand you cannot really make it come online progressively, it's either not producing anything or it is trying to relocate your kidneys. This effect is going to be amplified with it running UK Spec turbos and the car at BPU level. It makes perfect sense that the second turbo spooling up in a low gear and low grip situation is going to cause backend twitching, even not at WOT. If you are able to suddenly regain traction and control in a 1600KG 382BHP GT car after losing it without warning then you are a better man than I.

All I know from passenger rides in a BPU'd Supra is that if he was driving it like he just stole it, the damage would be far worse.

nobody said he was driving it like he stole it

To my mind, simply driving beyond what the conditions would allow is enough to pour scorn on him.

As others are rightly pointing out ,if you were driving to what the conditions allow, cars dont just hop over central reservations and plough into oncomming vehicles.
