Acer 8371/3810 Owners Thread

Display problem (NOT backlight?!)

Hi,

Ive read of the backlit problems since my 3810 recently started to have display issues, but I don't think it is the backlight in my case. Here is what I observed

1) Occasionally, the whole display is in striped, black and whitish, blinking.
2) When I move the screen it sometimes gets black until I move it again a bit
3) Sometimes the display in windows gets messed up, a warning says "The display driver has crashed. Restored original settings"
4) On the right hinge there is a weird cracking squeaking sound when I move the display.

I thought given the move of the display changes results and there were stripes (no 100% blackout) it was the display cable, so I ordered one

But I wonder whether it might be something else?? Anyone experienced the same problems?

Cheers

Anyone fancy giving mine a solder job that lives in LDN? Need to get the power jack redone, but cowboy shops are wanting to charge me >£75

For that price, I'd be half tempted to try it myself, and if I screw it up, get a IBM x61. :/

Mine was going dim and really dark in the bottom left corner and making the same noises as you describe, but lots of wiggling fixed it. Then yesterday the display wouldn't come on. Its probably cable but I bought the £60 extended warranty (at the end of the day, its cheaper than a new screen, which I knew the laptop would probably require at some point) so I'm sending it off to acer.

Can someone please re upload the overclocking files, the uploaded.to link is down and I need the overclock to render videos faster. Thanks! :)

Just had a call from the girlfriend, claims the screen has packed up. Apparantly you can still hear it working in the background, just can't see anything.

Common issue? And if so, is there a fix? Or should I start thinking about an RMA?

Are you talking about graphics overclock or cpu overclock.

The graphics is overclocked by using a modified bios. So if your using a modified bios like the last one I posted, the graphics will be overclocked automatically

To overclock the CPU you need this : http://www.mediafire.com/file/409679k57k7c4jd/OC_RTM875T_250.zip

You need to extract all files then run the exe everytime the computer is turned on after restart, sleep etc. Put it in your start menu.

My screen just went. Ordered a new one from the bay for £49.25 (Acer 3810TZG here) and it came this morning. All fitted, and typing this message from it :)

Shame the screens seem "flimsy" and don't last that long.

Mine got stolen on Thursday last week in a burglary.

Any ideas on a suitable replacement for it? Doesn't seem to be anything that matches it for the price I paid back in 2010 (£350).

Guys, really hoping somebody will be able to help me.

Back light of my Acer 8371, purchased Dec 11 went this morning. Works fine connected to a monitor but now I can barely see anything, if at all on the screen.

Stupidly didn't purchase the extended warranty :|

I have seen from a bit of research this is commonly a problem with the inverter. Has anybody tried replacing this?

I also see a lot of inverters listed on eBay for a few pound - but none of them seem to be the correct model for the 8371.

Has anybody dismantled the screen and has the inverter model number?

Edit: maybe I'm going in the wrong direction - as this is a LED model is there even an inverter?? Originally was looking at http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-acer-travelmate-8100-laptop/ - which is for LCD

Edit (again, sorry!): maybe this article is more relevant? http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-broken-screen-acer-aspire-3810t-laptop/

Anybody know how much Acer would charge to repair this?

Thanks for the assistance. Gutted as this was a great laptop!

Cheers,
Matt

one word warranty? if you purchased in Dec (4 months ago) then it will be covered. Unless you bought from ebay etc in which case ignore what I say here :)

Screen on my brothers 3810 just failed.

I've ordered the LP133WH2-TLA3 screen since apparently this one doesn't suffer from the bent cable problem.

This guide was very useful: http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-broken-screen-acer-aspire-3810t-laptop/
May have been posted already, but I don't want to read through 32 pages.

The screen arrived next day and I've just fitted it.

It works great, and in fact, is a much better screen than the old one.
The old one had a purple tint to the blacks and bad viewing angles, this one has a nice dark black and much better viewing angles.
