Adam Johnson - The Results Show

He's not going to get 10 anyway, that will be for much more serious definitions than he has done, like serial offenders or people in positions of trust.

I'll guess he'll get 2-4 years, more years suspended and some community service.

Are we play guess the sentence?

chemical castration and 5 years hard labour in a Siberain Gulag ?

he'll get 5 years, out in 3 and his name entered on to the sex offenders list. No doubt he'll be in some nice well protected nonce's wing so the general prison population don't batter the ever loving crap out of him for being a convicted nonce.

Blimey - presumably due to the fact that he knew she was that age he was being prosecuted?

Easy targets these professional footballers - too much time and money on their hands and plenty of girls allowed in these clubs without any ID etc. I'm not justifying it one bit but how many times have we seen girls out on the town on a Friday or Saturday night and would be shocked if we actually knew some of their ages!

A mates sister used to get into clubs when she was 14 and quite honestly she could have passed for 18 easily.

From what I understand he'd been messaging her, hence the serious nature of the offence? ie. child grooming.

I am certain he isn't the only one that has found himself in that situation. Same goes for rock bands... with the stories that have done the rounds over the years I'm surprised some of them haven't ended up in prison.

Personally, I do not think that Sunderland come out of this very well either. It becomes apparent that they had access to all of the information, charges, and knew he had admitted to it but that he was going to plead 'not guilty', and they continued to play him.

How horrific must it have been to face horrible names being called at you, as a young girl, all because of an older man manipulating you for his own gain. Watching thousands of people cheer him on, and be called every name under the sun yourself.

It's not apparent at all and Sunderland have denied knowing he was going to change his plea.

We were discussing Sunderland's alleged knowledge about this at work today. Was Adam Johnson that much of an asset and worth the risk? Personally I think not.

The club (Sunderland), knew his charges.

There is a difference between standing by him (not sacking him, suspension pending the result of the investigation), and allowing him to continue playing (Showing support for the player, despite knowing the charges, which involved a young fan of the club and the message that sends out).

What's a bigger deal to the club, bad publicity for sticking with him or being relegated without his input?

That did cross my mind but I honestly don't know how much he has helped them (didn't even know he was playing this season :o). Since I found out, I have heard he got the equaliser against Liverpool.

If true, they better hope there isn't any proof....

In the statement that Sunderland made, they state that they were given evidence (which was passed on) in relation to the case and that they knew of all the charges.

I think it's pretty abhorrent that the club continued to play him.

From what I've read she was a big fan that turned up at the training ground and waited for him after matches to get her programmes/shirt etc signed, she friended him on Facebook and despite him asking her age and her making it clear that she was 15 he wasn't deterred.

They knew the charges but he always stated that he was going to plead not guilty therefore they decided to stand by him.

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest, the whole industry stinks. There is a lot worse that goes on and we don't hear about it. When money is involved morals go out the window.

The cynic in me says that (whilst I agree it was 100% wrong) she knew exactly what she was doing. At 15 I knew what was what, as do 99% of teenagers that age. Also, didn't this only come to light because her dad found out? She can't play the innocent party - although this doesn't excuse what he did.

Maybe I misread or just cannot remember correctly as it was a couple of weeks back; I am fairly certain that he approached her on a tour of the training ground which then lead to texting and social media connections.

Stand by him and continue as if nothing as happened are two different things in my opinion (in this case). They could have suspended him (as I would imagine is standard practise for a child abuse case, in which the employee comes in to regular contact with at risk / young people) pending the end of the investigation, the chose not to and decided to continue allowing him to carry out his duties and play in the first team.

All my opinion of course.

I think it was her mother that forced her to go to the police.

If you have paid attention to the court evidence, I think it is not unfair to suggest that while there was certainly back and forth between the two - she was being manipulated and you have to consider her status as a self confessed huge fan of the club - en easy target. It was predatory behaviour, in my opinion from what I have seen presented in court anyway.
