"Addicting"

We do? I've never used the word. I barely ever use the word "addictive" or "addicted", either, since they are misused so often.

A heavily US populated forum I use is where I first started seeing it used about 5 years ago.

That's been around a long time. Americans who think about it admit it doesn't make sense but usage means it's here to stay. Or 'there' to stay.

'-ing' implies an activity by the thing performing the action.

But a game, or a drug, or something that you can get addicted to, something that is addictive, is not usually something capable of performing an activity, like 'addicting' you.

Becoming addicted is passive on the part of a game, or a drug.

I think that is why the word 'addictive' exists in the first place, eh!
