Hi all,

I'm needing an additional drive to put in my current system:

i7-920 (stock)
Gigabyte UD5
6GB Ram
Samsung F3 1TB
Win7 64

The Sammy F3 seemed to be the de rigueur choice when I got the machine originally, but I'm a bit out of the loop now - what 1TB drive is recommended these days?

Any info appreciated :)

Assuming you mean 1TB then the Samsung F3 is still the way to go.

Unfortunately OcUK have none in stock and have removed them from the site until they do.

Price wise the F3 is usually around £40-£45.

You can get a Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB for £56.99 on This Week Only. Almost as fast and double the storage.

If you want to stick with 7,200RPM 1TB then the most reasonably priced ones in stock are the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C and the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12.

You can find the Hitachi and Seagate tested here alongside the Samsung F3.
 
Sorry for not replying quicker - in the end OC got the F3 back in stock :)


In terms of connecting the new drive up:

I was just going to connect it to a second hd controller on my board and set it as a single drive....

Would this be the best option? Was thinking that I don't have raid1 setup, but i'm guessing that's really a decision that should have been taken when the machine was built?

Just really wondering about the options before setting anything up :)
