Adolescence | Netflix

My take on the programme is less of an attack on social media but more of a warning to parents to how their children are exposed to it.
Yes. And the unseen harm it can do.
If anything I think the episode was commentary on how ‘children being left alone in the safety of their homes’ doesn’t make them safe… that’s not an attack on media; it’s a cautionary tale for well-meaning parents that take their eye off the ball because they aren’t mistreating their children in any ‘obvious’ way.
Yes, agreed. And that’s basically what I meant.
See I don't know what to think here. I remember being a kid with a computer and at 1am I'm either jacking it for the 10th time that day or playing age of empires 2.
As @Kenai said the difference now is that kids spent a lot of that time on social media rather than playing games, watching porn etc. I used to play Delta Force until the early hours but there was no FB, or Insta etc. to suck me into horrible influencers like the Tates or whatever.
The hype for this is unbelievable but as i don't have kids I don't think I'd find it particularly thought provoking?
We don’t have kids and I’m still thinking about it a few days after watching the final episode. Depends if you like good, thought provoking drama about society etc.

I am interested in the 1 take nature of it but I suspect it's probably a bit of a cringe take and eye rolling look at "modern culture" BaD pArEnTiNg
I Guess I'll have to try it, stupid fomo TV.
but it's all about andrew tate. didn't you know ;)

i have a 3 week old when watching this. I don't think that changed how I viewed the show, just the same I don't live in Gotham but enjoy all the batman movies

So even though he is mentioned in it twice and the writers mentioned him on morning tv in an interview you don't think it is :)

I also watched the Crossbow Murder documentary about the guy who killed 3 female members of a family with a crossbow, when they seized his computer he was a massive fan of Tate. This was also mentioned at his trial.

It was alright. The one take novelty wears off and hinders the narrative in places, I think. And leads to what I see as ‘filler’ / ad-libby type waffle. The driving section in the final episode drags on, for example.

I agree with a previous poster that Boiling Point had a better theme and reason for doing the one take. Though the use of drones and managing to not mess up shots while fixing a camera to a drone then off again was pretty impressive.

Is the emoji's code thing real?
Don't fancy being a young person these days, or a parent for that matter. The always connected always commented on ***** would ruin anybody's head.

As much as i loved the show I'm already getting a bit sick of what feels like every other youtuber jumping on the bandwagon and making a video about how 'THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SHOW EVER MADE'.

then mark them as not interested.

i watched boiling point tonight after comments from others on here. decent show, but you can see how much better they have got over the years, and the story of adolescence is far more interesting.

haven't felt in the mood to watch it yet but I will.

what do people think about how shooting in one take improves or detracts from the story?

Detracts heavily was my initial thoughts.

BUT, hearing the directors interviewed, the bits I wanted to see was never in their plan anyway. I e. Some sort of court trial, some sort of his experience in custody. Or some sort of followup on the other school kids beyond one episode. Due to the one shot nature it's just hard moving between scenes, or revisiting parts from previous episodes.

The one take thing definitely works as good advertising and gets people talking about it. I heard about the show because I follow Hideo Kojima on Twitter and he mentioned the show and said it was really cool how its all done in one take.

My wife said the same but within 30 mins of the first episode it’s beyond doubt that he did it so I’m not sure what value a trial scene would add. It’s not really a traditional crime drama.
