I agree with all - this looks rather odd.

Enquire with details on FCA site and do a credit check. Money saving expert has a free one powered by Experian (i think).

Last resort i might phone the number on the website.

Are you 100% sure that your dad hasn't run up crazy bills phoning up sex lines? It might be hard for him to admit it to you being his son, so would be worth while phoning up the company and asking what its in regards too.

I used to work for them. It'll be in relation to fees on a successful PPI claim or packaged bank account claim.

The company does look a bit dodgy. They were PPI vultures and some of the reviews seem to say they screw up a lot.

You can say that again.

The url on that letter seems to be a holding page...unless they're just using theprotectionspecialist for emails without even a redirect to their main page, also the phone number on the letter doesn't match the one of the website they list as at the top of the letter.

The Protection Specialist is their parent company.

I would have thought the first point of action would be to call and ask them what the outstanding bill is for or who it is for?
When we first moved into our place we had a lot of these letter chasing debt for the previous tenant, even had bailiffs show up twice. After calling them and informing them that the debtor no longer lives here they stopped sending letters etc.

Ask in GD instead of calling the number and asking them... Yea that makes a lot of sense.. not.

There are plenty of scams and this type of company aren't exactly unknown for dodgy practices. What's wrong with seeking a bit of advice before getting involved with them?

Just email them rather than call them. You can state things out clearly and explain the situation. The son of the people who use to own our house got some debt collection letters sent to our address threatening bailiffs, a quick email to them and I never heard from them again. Which was surprising really as for all they knew I could have been the debtor throwing them off the scent?!

This company don't do that. They'll only write to people that are customers of theirs. There's no speculative punts going on here.

Debt collectors? They sometimes do when the person has been lost. They do an electoral roll search and hope they've found the right person.

It's the in-house collections team for the company in question. It's not been sold on, they only contact people who completed a PPI claim with them, were successful and supposedly haven't paid their fees.

I worked for them for 2 years.

So they are the claimants in the CCJ then?
