Advice?! High spec PC- sod it and get a Mac?

YES that's EXACTLY my problem, I saw this forum before, should I keep going to service pack 2 or 3 or whatever it is on win7 at the moment and then try?

Exactly as that forum talks about, I can't get the firmware updater to work

I struggled to update the firmware on Win7; luckily I had a XP sp3 laptop to hand and the firmware update worked without a hitch. Then it was the simple case of removing any trace of old drivers on the Win7 system and install the latest drivers.

Regarding the Mac Vs PC; from my 8-9 years experience working with both systems in audio/studio environments (OS9-10.6, win98-7, Protools LE/HD and various other gear), you won't notice much difference in a home studio environment. It's only when you're needing high track counts and loads of plugins do Macs/OSX come into their element ie: slight better and more efficient performance (same plugins tax the cpu less etc).
Also don't believe Macs are any more stable, you can still happily crash/beach-ball them.

Personally I’d spend the time getting the Multimix working and use the cash for better gear. You can't have enough gear

And Logic, eurgh :p Granted, midi in PT is woeful but it's easily the best multitracker.

Late Edit - Do realise Cubase/Nuendo runs on OSX

this really is a tough decision and its similar to one that i myself will have to make soon because my macbook is getting damn old.

the way im looking at it is that even though the macbook is a great machine it just doesn't offer everything that you want or is a big enough improvement to value the cost

for example you could buy a cheap i5 laptop and with all your gear plugged in its going to outperform the macbook , its not going to looks as nice but it is going to do the same job and its going to save money

i guess the deciders are money and how much logic is worth to you. personally im not a fan which is why i still cant decide on my own next purchase. theres a lot of money to be saved which could be better spent on extra audio hardware (imo) but then again if you wouldn't be happy with a cheaper laptop then theres no point in that either

macbook pro + games console could be a winner

Having commented on here yesterday I've gone and purchased a 13" mbp with the 2.7ghz i7, 8gb of ram and 128gb ssd :-).

I'll have to yet an external hard drive next month for music and films but it was coming in at the same price as a fairly high end windows pc which I was 1 click away from buying !!!
