Advice needed for a photo shoot!

I would have started by getting a keen amateur to do some stuff
if you were near nottingham I would have recommended a friend of mine who loves shooting medium format
she's got a very good eye
another friendof mine, he does pretty good portraits
if you like someone's work on here and they're close by, arrange something maybe!?
in that respect you'll have some fun and both get something out of it maybe? just a suggestion
if you like a style or find something that clicks, then you can always take that idea to a professional studio
the equivalent of taking a photo of a footballer/movie star to the hairdressers :)

Good lord! They actually get away with these prices?!? /me ups pricing structure ;)

just clicked on your site
what an awesome way to present your photos :)
very very very very very very choice!

Yikes, well Ive just asked my dad to call the studio to ask them how on earth they can justify £895 for 15 normal sized photos! I darent do it myself cos I have to go back next week :D

Oh and thanks for that DizMatt, but my problems lie more with the cost and what not.

Ive already been through the shoot so its not a matter of finding a keen amateur, the damage has been done :D

£895 for 15!! ****. Here I am scared of charing an international corporationg £500 and they're charging hard working folk that! Thats outragous.

It is. My sister in law used to work with Venture but she's now on her own. Her most expensive portrait is about £2.5k as well apparently

We did a portrait session for a family as a birthday present where the guys brother paid £100 as a voucher. This included 1 8x6 print and 2 framed 10x8 prints. They were delighted with the pictures and they wanted a big canvas print (20"x24" I think) which we outsourced for around £75 and charged them £150. I guess we could have charged more but 50% markup is good for us! :)

Looks like I'm going to call the studio and cancel the viewing. :(

I'm going to be too tempted to buy every photo, and I'm going to make myself bankrupt in the process. So better save myself the heartache!

Such a shame :(

Get the sample or whatever they give away for free, if anything, then look for someone local and ask them to do something similar :)

Beat me to it...or pluck up the courage, leave the credit cards at home and go and see the viewing. When you see one (or more) you like, remember the pose and the style, go away to have it taken somewhere else?

Heh, there are a whole bunch of OcUK photographers going to London on Saturday, come along , I'm sure one of us will get a good shot of you! :D

Dunno if anyone is interested in an update :)

We had the shoot, it was loads of fun! Only got to see a couple of shots and we are going back for our viewing on my birthday, (6th March, wonder if they'll give me a birthday discount? ;))

The photographer said she doesnt get any commission from photos sold so dont worry about hard selling, but by the looks of it we are going to be spending about £250 for something we really want :)

That's lies :) - Venture photographers do get commision but no-one is supposed to know about it. I work at venture and have worked for 3 studios (2 on contract) and a photographer whispered to me that if their shots sell more one month and the studio gets above target then they get a larger bonus/commision and this can be anywhere from £300 and beyond depending on how well the shots sold! - This is certainly the case for the studio I worked at and I am sure other studios do *** same as it is all a franchise afterall operating under HQ regulations.

I got quite mad reading that mrk.

Ive been wondering how Venture can POSSIBLY justify asking for £895 for 15 prints in an album. Now I know, its their bloody wages

But thanks for the input, I'm not mad with you :p

People don't realise you can EASILY buy the Venture style frames for around £20 and get a friend who is good with portraits to get the exact same results at less than a fraction of *** cost - most people who buy from venture justify it by the experience, indeed this is the case for Venture as they advertise the price as a "venture experience" which is of course professional and of high standard but the monies the images sell for is totally out of reach of the majority of the public who would actually buy lots of them had they been a bit cheaper.
