Advice on a new build built around the following

Darth, having two high end games playing at the same time is beyond the mathematical calculations of any computer speccer on here i'd assume. Most games if not all games are designed to use the majority of the computer's output at any one time. The only games i can comfortably play whilst watching a video at the same time are ones such as fifa and a few MMO's. when it comes to high end FPS games things start to struggle, especially when the game itself normally hijacks the entirety of the GPU usage causing videos to stutter and often disable windows aero.

What about having 2 games open (let's say FF XIV and WoW) not at ultra settings (medium to low) and being able to alt tab between both games in windowed mode or just having one game open and watching netflix on the other or streaming other content while having something like Ventrilo, Mumble or Team Speak open. It's why I have gone for the top end components so a year or two down the line I can still do what I have said without the need to upgrade. Thanks and apologies for questions that might seem strange to some relating to how I want to use my new build.

PS doesnt have to be 4k^^ I can live with maybe 1 4k monitor and anormal one or even 2 normal at 1080p (above 27")

I don't know how possible that is and (if it is) how it would affect CPU core usage. I suspect that 8 cores would fair no better than 4 cores in that situation as they'd be trying to access the same part of the CPU. Especially as games aren't really designed with those HUGE numbers of cores in mind, you may struggle (if you succeed atall).

You'd need more than a 295x2 to run 2 x 4k screens anyway.

Any help re above much appreciated.

Ive not considered that. But thats beyond my expertise. I wondered if there was a solution in the way i spec my build with regards to all of the above.

I've heard of people running multiple instances of the same game simultaneously, but never two different games at the same time. I doubt there's anyone on this board who can advise you on that, you'll just have to try it.

What is the best possible set up I can go for to see if running two games as per above works as best as it can.

Thanks

Hi Guys

I have basically decided on the following unless the experts amongst you advise me otherwise:

Rampage V extreme board
Inno3d GTX 980 gpu
Intel 5960x extreme haswell

What i need some assitance with is the memory, power supply, cooling & case. I need to make a purchase in the next day or so. Immediate feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The core usage of this bad boy will be high end gameing and multimedia/work purposes possible link up with a 65 inch tv.

Thanks

Hi

Are 2 x 8 sticks for memory better or 4 x 4?

Also this case lists restrictions for cpu cooler, does this limit what cooling options are available? Will the board chosen fit comfortably within this case or are there better cases then this?

Thanks

Darth

The X99+CPU use quad channel RAM for maximum bandwidth.

So occupy four slots at a time or buy a full 8 RAM sticks for 32GB.

That FT02 is nice and the rotated fitment of the board allows air to naturally rise up and out. But trying to get an 240mm/280mm all-in-one water cooler will be a pain to fit as it has 180mm fans in the base.

These all fit,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011035-WW) £124.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £98.95
1 x Corsair Obsidian 450D High Airflow Mid-Tower Case (CC-9011049-WW) £91.99
1 x Phanteks Enthoo Pro Mid Tower Enthusiast Case with Window £89.99
Total : £428.84 (includes shipping : £19.10).

They four case I listed will fit with everything and a H105 or even the H110.

Bgrade could be anything, there might be scuffs etc or just a damaged box, no way of knowing.

One thing I would not buy Bgrade is a delicate item such as a HDD.

The H110 and H105 are both very similar in performance.

one is wider and the other is thicker.

They fit all the case I linked too, the bgrade is the same as the new Corsair 750D I linked in post#34
