Age of Conan

This game looks pretty good. I had already decided to give this or war a go but war will have to impress me a lot more to get my money over aoc.

The AoC team is really ramping up the PR now it's getting close to launch and all power to them - the market has been really stifled since WoW was released. Really hope they can pull it off - just want the open beta now :(

Well just played the tech test.

conclusions....

OK but very very buggy and nowhere near release imo.

Tech tests use older stable builds ;) We didn't see what general beta saw.

My account password changed 10 minutes in, got to play from 10.30-11.00 though, which is a lot more than I got last time.

Reported a few graphical, model and movement bugs, just pre-ordered CE for Rhino!

Where did you preorder from?

Noticed that you can't walk through characters does that have any practical implications?

'Sinclair Software' it was getting a little too close for the preorder deadline for my liking, they had CE(UK) with rhino, only place i've seen it.

If UK retailers get their act together I'll cancel this one as it's a German company.

Collision has a massive implication! Think of the body blocking possibilities in PvE and PvP, there's a hallway, you have 3 tanks, you make a shield wall and nothing can get through!

Does this game have much single player PvE content such as quests etc? I've played Warcraft since release and although I enjoy PvP now and then, I prefer the PvE content more. This game does look good, but all I hear about is PvP this and that, combat system the other.

I understand the island you start on is a little story and you level up and it shows you the ropes and such, but is that it? Once you're done is it just PvP and seiges etc.?

Edit: Just wondering if it's worth looking at from the perspective of somebody who likes PvE/quests/instances/crafting firstly and PvP secondly really.

Wrong. Tech tests use the same client as the General client. They were different up until a month or two ago, but now they are the same.

Does that actually work? How about using tanks to stop arrows/fireballs?

No collision isn't very effective just now and there is absolutely no way of blocking ranged attacks from reaching their destination other than running around a wall. Ranged attacks are done in the same way as any other game, tab target hit.

The game is based on quests which you can level from 1 to 80 almost exclusively on. The only single player aspect of the game is the destiny quests which take up some of your time between 1 to 20, these quests take place in your personal night time instance of Tortage. You must do day time quests in the normal instance of the game with everyone else for part fo the 1 to 20 though, theres not enough destiny quests to do all of those levels.

When you leave tortage at 20 you are out into the world and can quest/grind/pvp in any of the 3 countries whenever you choose. there's a plethora of content to keep you going to 80.

Ah okay, sounds good. I like being able to solo quests if I want but also being able to group up and do them, and go to instances/dungeons etc. I was wondering because the only talk and videos I've seen just seemed to be about the PvP side of the game, not much about questing.
