Age of Conan

Both the UK early start and the 5 euro thing has not been confirmed.

I dont get these people playing on US servers.

Indeed, increased latency, weird meeting hours (1am+) generally more bad attitudes etc.

Eidos pulled the plug on the UK 3 day head start due to lack of a suitable host for digital distribution, didn't they?

All the guys I play with are from the US...

Increased latency? Not big enough to make any kind of difference.

Weird meeting hours? No, not really. There are always people playing at any time of the day anyway.

No one seems to know for definite what is happening with the European/UK headstart.

I was going to say increased ping, crazy 2am raiding times, annoying American accents (my personal opinion) and among other things which i've yet to think about :D

Eurogamer were reporting a 3 day head start yesterday.

Good, I'm utterly confused on the issue, will be working anyway but it feels good using my unlimited bandwidth with Be*, I aim to be the first to warned by the fair usage policy and to break their 1.6tb limit, ~400gb so far =D

Pre-order people have to pay for early access! :

"By pre-ordering the game from a retailer that retailer will supply you with a pre-order key. You can use this key to purchase Early Access from the Funcom website for $5 / 5€."

Am I reading it right? That is just waaay beyond taking the mick.

Edit - ah, I see right at the end it mentions that this also gets you an extre 10 days subscription time, so not too bad, I suppose. Still, a bit cheeky.

That's what has been said, but then one person I know of got an email from the big purple letters saying that the CE's would come with a mount and the headstart time, so maybe that would also apply for standard.

It's all a little confusing and doesn't help when you're left in the dark.

As you already know half my guild are from the US, perhaps a little bit more. More competition and longer lasting competition. We've always played on US servers for games for that simple reason. Add to that the fact that the ping in AoC is minimal, i get 120ms ping and the servers are located in New Jersey USA and the guys from my guild that are in the US have 95ms ping... not much difference. I've yet to experience any lag whatsoever other than the 1 week where everyone was gettong the lag spikes, they soon fixed that though.

I got the Funcom AoC newsletter last night and this was in it:

If you pre-order the game you will be allowed into the world of Hyboria several days prior to the official opening of the servers, which is set for May 20th in North-America and May 23rd in Europe. This is what we call the Early Access program.

By pre-ordering the game from a retailer that retailer will supply you with a pre-order key. You can use this key to purchase Early Access from the Funcom website for $5 / 5€.

Note that Early Access is exclusively available to those who pre-order. The characters you create during your Early Access period will still be available to you once the servers officially open. Early Access will require you to download the game yourself.

The dates for Early Access are as follows:

Europe: Registration and sales of Early Access open on May 2nd. Download of the client for early access from May 16th, and you can start playing from May 20th.

North-America: Registration and sales of Early Access open on May 2nd. Download of the client for early access from May 13th, and you can start playing from May 17th.

Purchasing Early Access will not only give you the chance to jump into Conan’s world before the rest of the world, but it will also give you ten extra days of free play time. These ten days are added to your thirty days of free play that is included in the retail

If you have not received your pre-order key by they end of April please contact your retailer directly.

Clearly States the 20th :) I'll be seeing you then :D

Funcom are holding to there word what ever uk shops say.

I think this is what is getting many people rather riled up about, Funcom says this, yet Eidos and retailers says that there is no headstart.

Why is it cheeky?

Bandwidth for a 15gb+ download
10 days subscription (its going to be 15eur a month = 5eur for 10 days.)

Because you're essentially paying them for the final beta test before launch. Don't get me wrong, I reckon AoC is going to be something special, but I'll eat my virtual shorts if the first few days are going to be anything less than a nightmare.

Remember people, the NDA remains in place for this PVP weekend until 9pm Saturday!

So were I hypothetically in, I'll hypothetically see some of you online! ;)

Look out for Storn

nice one badgermonkey

found the torrent on gamespots site, thats slow as well. so will try this one as well :D

Edit thats coming down at 800k guessing its being hit hard at the moment as i have a 24mb connection
