Age of Conan

Well then, as I said, it probably needs optimisation for the particular combination of hardware you're using - this is the way of any new game. Still, 30FPS is eminently playable and will only get better wiht time as the code is tweaked, so you've got nothing to complain about :) It's not like it's broken, just like it isn't for the thousands of people who AREN'T posting on FC's forums to complain.

30 fps is the highest I get. That was in the starting area. Elsewhere it's 20 fps and in some parts of Tortage it was 10 fps. Combined with the tearing and the fact that it looked awful, it was just unplayable.

It's not simply optimisation, there's something wrong, if you read the performance thread you'll see, people have posted evidence, inconsistencies in performance.

And I have no idea why people are complaining about the world being zoned and instanced - so it detracts a little from the immersiveness and seamlessness of the world - SO FREAKING WHAT????

I agree. I think it's great. If you're farming stuff, instanced zones = win - Less people to steal your mobs/loot :D

The only thing putting me off this game is the dungeons. Are there actually any dungeons that operate on the same system as WoW? Eg. 5 man group, you have to clear out the whole instance with YOUR group and there are no other people running around killing mobs inside your instance of the dungeon.

If I have to share my dungeon runs with randoms running about the place then I think I might just give this a miss.

You can, but you have to pick "Epic" when entering the dungeon. Then its only your party.

Tried it the other night - its a hell of a lot harder than the normal instance! Better loot though.

Does anyone know if this game will be more player economy based (e.g. crafting armour etc) or more loot based? I can't find anything on this :(

I realise the economy is new, just wondering if it was ever mentioned by the devs .. :/

Settings on high, but with certain things turned down. There are a huge amount of graphics options.

Getting about 30-40 fps on a e2160 @3ghz 2gb and a 8800GTS 320mb

Playing as a Necro and its really enjoyable, level 21 now and have been doing some deathmatch PVP. Only problem with pvp is that the brackets go something along the lines of...

1-20
21-39
40-??

So now i'm in the 2nd bracket playing against level 30 somethings which is slightly unfair. So basically pvp is out of the question until i level like another 16 levels :(

Really enjoyed the starting zone (tortage) with its mix of multi and single player quests but would find that re-rolling another class would be really boring going through it all again (unless its drastically different for each class).

Unsure as to whether will continue after the free month, wait and see :)

And I have no idea why people are complaining about the world being zoned and instanced - so it detracts a little from the immersiveness and seamlessness of the world - SO FREAKING WHAT????

Zoning allows for the amazing graphics, which more than make up in immersiveness than the occasional loading screen.

And instancing enables the fast-paced action-packed gameplay, which would not be possible if there were thousands of people all in the same area, as the latencies would skyrocket exponentially! You do realise that things like dodging, sidesteps, and active blocking of attacks that have an activation time of 1.25" (and that's for the SLOWEST of melee weapons!) would not be possible on higher latencies, which are unavoidable if there are too many people connected to the same area? I'm getting pings of 50ms even on my crappy Virgin connection - how many other MMOs can do that?

Whoa there tiger, why not get off your high horse.

Instancing in MMOs is a very personal taste thing, some people dont mind it, others hate it.

As for your dodging, sidesteping and so forth, AC did all that in a non instanced world, in 1999. So yes, it can be done with thousands of people in the same area without latencies skyrocketing exponentially. (and in AC you could dodge arrows and spells by sidesteping/dodging too)

Why not just accept that some people dont mind MMOs with instancing (like the people who still today play DDO and CoH), whilst others really dont like instancing at all (like the people still playing UO and Daoc), instead of getting all worked up and capitalising stuff.

Its far too early at this stage to say whether AoC will be a success or whether it will be a failure, only time will tell on that. We do know that they have 400,000 accounts at the moment (although a poll this week on whether or not people would stay after the free month showed that 53% were not sure they would or definately wouldnt), perhaps AoC will grow and be an immense success, perhaps people will reach level 80 in a few weeks and decide that theres nothing really to do (a la DDO) who knows, at this stage nobody knows. All we can do is wait and see, and see if people are still raving about AoC in December.

Try these settings,

First force V-sync in your graphics card control panel (stop tearing)

I assume you have a decent system or you wouldn't be moaning about performance right?

Set ingame to medium then change shadows to just yourself and change shadow resolution to low, 3d ambient occlusion to low, draw distance to 1500
bloom off.

thats roughly what i use.

Also turn the high detail NPC slider right down. By default, it's set to 100%, so the game will be trying to draw high detail NPCs right up to your max draw distance. This made a huge difference for me.

But yeah, post your system specs first. There's not 'something wrong' unless everyone who's playing the game is getting the same thing. I'm not for a start, neither a lot of other people here.

Hello there,

Can someone put some screens of the actual character sheet/inventory, also weapon/armor stats? been looking on the web to no avail. :)

Here's some more info chaddy.

Once you hit Lvl 20 you can pick a Gathering profession, being these:-

* Mining

This profession will allow you to gather resources such as copper, tin, iron and more. You can also find rare ones like orichalcum and blue iron.

* Prospecting

This profession will allow you to gather resources such as silver, electrum, gold and more. You can also find rare ones like illustrium and platinum.

* Skinning

This profession will allow you to gather resources such as different types of leather, some of which are rare ones like the grained leather and the whorled leather.

* Stonecutting

This profession will allow you to gather resources such as sandstone, granite, basalt and more. You can also find rare ones like adamant and obsidian.

* Weaving

This profession will allow you to gather resources such as cotton, wool, flax and more. You can also find rare ones like bloodflax and cottonwisp.

* Woodcutting

This profession will allow you to gather wood like items such as ash, yew, oak and more. You can also find rare ones like soulwood and amberwood.

Then once you hit Lvl 40 you can pick a Crafting Profession, being these:-

* Weaponsmith

Picking up this trade allows you to craft various types of weaponry, from swords to staffs, from daggers to crossbows. Everything needed to kill your opponents!

* Armorsmith

If you wish to go the completely opposite route from the weaponsmith, try picking up the armorsmithing craft that allows you to craft various types of armor pieces.

* Alchemist

Do you enjoy mixing things into vials and seeing how the result affects people? Then you should try your luck at alchemy, allowing you to make various types of potions.

* Architect

City-building is an integral part of Age of Conan, and you will need someone skilled in the arts of architecture to draw up the plans needed for the different buildings.

* Gemcutter

Monsters tend to drop rough gems that the gemcutter can turn into powerful enchantments, and these can be placed into other crafted items to make them more potent.

Funcom strived to make it so that crafting is as intuitive as possible, while still maintaining the level of challenge that makes progression so entertaining. When you’re ready to start crafting something, all you do is bring up your recipe book and click on what you want to create. If you have the required resources in your inventory, the item will be created for you. There are certain exceptions to this, as some of the top tier recipes will require that your guild is in possession of certain types of structures within the guild city. Some of the top tier alchemy recipes will, for instance, require your guild to have an alchemist’s workshop constructed within the guild city.

Even on everything the absolute lowest I only get 10-30fps, with v-sync forced on I lose about 5-10 fps. Like I said before there's something wrong because somehow whilst changing settings to higher I managed to get 50 fps, they were much higher than the lowest settings possible, I even had AA on.

If I change the settings back to how they were when I got 50 fps, I only get 20 fps. I haven't been able to reproduce what I did there. Other people have reported similar inconsistencies, spikes in FPS after changing settings, then the FPS gradually reduces over time, strange GPU usage percentages...etc

Lets put these performances issues to bed. If you have a specific problem running what is a high end (graphic wise at least) game on a high end system, then you may have some luck in tweaking particular settings or in the release of game updates.

Not all games can do a Valve or a WoW where in they aim to satisfy the majority of the market with ample graphics. Someone has to aim at the top end of the market for their own market share (Crysis anyone?). Not everyone can compete successfully at the mainstream market level, and age of conan does not try and do that. You only have to look at the screenshots and compare them to WoW to realise you're not gonna be able to play this on a 'mediocre' system.

I feel sorry for those who can't play the game because of their system and want to, but such is life in PC Gaming I suppose. PC gaming is about pushing boundaries and letting devs come up with amazing visuals etc, it's our job to lap it up and upgrade when we can afford (or even can't afford) to.

Another mention on the game.. can't wait to see the outside world now, Tortage has given me some satisfaction, but I need more of the core game now I feel. Only a few levels to go.
