I'd say it would also depend on how long you plan on keeping the car, more than a few years then I'd go for the older, higher spec and retro fit the bits you want to. However would this affect premiums or is the sport just a name to the insurers?

If I buy, say, something on an S plate and keep it for 5 years at some point I'll have a car thats 13 years old. Eeek.
