Age restrictions on the sale of alcohol now TOO tight?

Some people have trouble guesstimating the age of others and will get disciplined if they guess wrong. How inconvinient of them to ask for ID!

when I tried to buy a 15 rated game from gamestation and the fool at the counter wouldn't sell it to me, even with photo id in the form of a bus pass and debit card as well as a prefect book from school with everyones names and dob's in it, thankfully the saleswoman at game had at least half a brain.

You can't blame the 'fool at the counter' becuase most companies policies is ONLY to accept certain forms of ID. You can't call him a fool for doing what he's paid to do and bus passes and debit cards are not valid proof of age.

It would be foolish of the guy behind the counter to land himself/gamestation with a £5,000 fine. Thats foolish.

Sorry but a school book is not a form of ID!

I have a similar opinion to hangtime. I carry my ID all the time and don't have an issue with buying alcohol. I'd rather underage teenagers didn't get the alcohol and I was inconvienienced for a few minutes.

However, this blanket ID'ing of OAPs does violate one of my principals called "common sense". If a cashier had no doubt in their mind that a person not only was ond enough to buy alcohol but also old enough to be their dad, then it's a bit different.

Be vigilant by all means, but don't disengage your brain because of it.

Yes lets ignore the debit card and bus pass photo id...

And.. Driving license?

Don't have one, not paying hundreds to get one either, espically when I'm doing my A levels. Nor am I going to pay £45 for a provisional one. This must be the only country where you have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for id. I suppose I'll have to stick to the internet for shopping. You know a country is going downhill when 3 forms of ID aren't enough to buy a video game and people have no common sense.

It's £34 or there abouts for a provisional and very useful ID. especially when you leave education and want to apply for credit/jobs/rent or anything else you require ID. One of the few photo Id's about.

I tell you what is stupid most places accept driving licenses and passprts but yet NOT firearm certs. you have to go through a lot more checks and paperwork to get them

Stupid fools

Maybe you should take in your firearms along with the certificate. That'll convince them :D

It's not three forms of ID though.

A bus isn't proper ID, and a debit card and a school book(!) aren't either!

Maybe if you'd not bought that computer game you could have got your provisional driving license, which will serve as ID for years. £45 is not even remotely a ridiculous amount.

I disagree. You shouldn't have to pay a penny to prove how old you are.

There are forms of ID available for about £10 with the PASS logo.

So carry your passport (who said it had to be in date?), get some ID or stop moaning on the internet about something which will definitely not be changing.

Saying you look like you are 29 is one thing, doesn't make it true!

its not a god given right to buy alcohol.

I find it stupid how no1 accepts MoD cards.. Theyre a bit more official than driving licenses tbh! nevermind PASS cards
