Age restrictions on the sale of alcohol now TOO tight?

yes but in england which is were were talking about, weed is ilegal for all.

Yes but I'm just saying I completly disagree with the UK rules and even disagree more to make it even more strict.
I think all the rules should be eased up and made just like in the NL, believing it should not cause any problems. Let the teenagers enjoy their teen years before they gain responcibility's like bills, driving a car, etc...

there a danger, its anti-social, and they start on people, do vandalism, the list goes on...

get real mate.

Not everyone, not experienced that myself tbh.
I don't think that a whole group should suffer from the actions of a minority.

maybe it works in holland, but over here, it would not work, trust.

I've been to London for 5 days and didn't really see big differences, everybody just trying to do their work minding their own busisness. Only difference was that you seemed a little less layed-back while doing stuff like commuting, shopping, etc...

I doubt the youth in the UK is much different compared to here, just chilling together outside mostly and going out in the weekends.

if only you knew, friday nights.... in suburbs = hell

Does anyone know how I (17) can get proper ID? Usually I order online to avoid age restrictions, but there was one time when I tried to buy a 15 rated game from gamestation and the fool at the counter wouldn't sell it to me, even with photo id in the form of a bus pass and debit card as well as a prefect book from school with everyones names and dob's in it, thankfully the saleswoman at game had at least half a brain. I certainly wouldn't want to have to carry my passport with me either as it would be the perfect gift for criminals.

Yes, way too tight! I was in Sainsbury's last night and even though the legal age is 18 they say you have to be 21 or over to buy alcohol! They even stopped a mate of mine buying a bottle of Whisky for his Dad's birthday because he was 20, a fact which his ID backed up.

Not only that, they now won't sell you DVD's unless your 21 or over too.

yea theyre anal as anything.
Morisons too :

Scenario A : Are you over 21?
No
Can i see your ID to check your over 21
Im not over 21, im over 18 though
Can i see your ID

B: Are you over 21?
Yes

Bit spazz tbh! I like being over 21 now though, it means i just have to tell one less lie everyday :p

Why is getting drunk neccesarely a bad thing ?
It's not that 16 year olds are allowed to drive or anything, only danger is to themselves really imo.

Because they're not responsible enough to act sensibly and enjoy it 'in moderation'.

If you ask me even 18 is too young. The majority of people at that age just aren't responsible and mature enough to be allowed alcohol.

Get one then, you dont need to have any intention of driving to be able to get one.

It was stolen by the Police many years ago! (don't ask, it's retarded) ;) I have to take my test again and I just haven't been arsed! When I passed it was a case of driving around for an hour, obeying the rules of the road and that was it! Now it's all this theory ******! Do this, don't do that, is this safe, is that safe, what would happen here, what happens if this happens? Load of crap if you ask me!

Won't change a thing, the problem will just move and 19-20 year olds would get alcohol from their 21 year old mates...

See the method works;)

It stops the 15 and 16 year olds getting there hands on it like the law trys to now.

And i dont know what it is but 15 and 16 years have a habbit of lieing on or close to roads when they are drunk:confused:

Well personally I dont carry any ID around, because I still have an old fashioned paper license, and I'm damned if I'll carry my passport around. however its not usually a problem for me where I Live. I did recently go to London to stay with some mates and we were all ID'ed even though the youngest of us was 28, so I had to offer an incentive to the bouncer (and no it didnt involve getting on my knees in an alleyway)

Were i work in somerfield the age restriction can be very tight. I think you can never be too careful, but at the OP if you look 29, that is a bit harsh if you got refused.

I'm 29 and nearly every time I buy alcohol I get asked for id. If I buy alcohol it's with the weekly shop as well, I'm 30 next year. I always have id on me now.

How do you know for sure the chav's won't cause trouble without alcohol ?
In the NL and Belgium ( I think in belgium anyhow, not sure, but im sure about the NL anyhow ) the legal age for light drinks ( upto 15% alc) is 16 and I don't really hear much about us causing trouble because of this.

clearly you've never been to Belgium, its as full of teenage scum as the uk.

BTW its illegal to supply alcohol to minors so if a 21 year old buys some alcohol and gives it to a 16 year old its the 21 yo thats breaking the law.

You have not experienced other areas. It's very much not "just chilling" for a lot of the so-called "chavs" who go around starting fights, or if their "enemies" don't turn up, start on you (has happened twice - group of them vs. me.)

Does anyone know how I (17) can get proper ID?

Speak to your local council. EssexCC have a scheme for "BiteCards" which are for 14-16 (cheap bus tickets) 16+(used to be tobacco) and 18+ (alcohol). Yours may have something similar, although ours were sent to our school automatically and for free.
