Ageia Tests Next-Generation PhysX Accelerators

“Q F T - why would you? They can't even utilise one card let alone 2!”
Come off it. Most PPU games get a 30 to 40% performance boost now. Only the first gen games had problems and we moved away from those ages ago. Its time to stop saying stupid stuff about the PPU like lowers FPS. 1 game out of 20 has that problem and it got fixed.

I never suggested that it doesn't make a difference only that no-one uses them - what use could we possibly have for two cards when no-one even uses one? It's all a little too optimistic. I've NEVER said that a PPU lowers frame rates.

1 game out of 20? so what are the other 19? - you know as well as I do that there just isn't the support out there for the PPU - they need to let it die and stick to their physics API.

What makes you say that? It looks perfectly legit to me - why waste time photoshopping a video card to look like a PPU?

The shape, cooler and some of the shadows. Someone may waste time so they can claim an exclusive of sorts and to generate plenty of hits on their website.

Surely once a major title like UT3 is out and using the PhysX cards, they will have a sudden popularity surge.

You were joking right?

That picture looks as fake as my girlfriends new b00bs!

On 2nd thoughts it could well be legit.
Ageia probably realised that Nvidas graphics cards do a better job of PhysX acceleration (when coded for) than their own cards & baught up a lot of old Nvidia cards, changed the heatsinks & rejigged thier drivers to work on their "new" Nvidia look-alike PPU's. :)

When you said they cannot utilise one card I thought you meant software did nothing on one card. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

I don’t agree. It been slower then expected but support is there or getting there. We now have support in none gaming applications and more major games use it. The latest one being Medal of Honor: Airborne. Its go too many games due out and out now to say it’s got no support.

There are now 50+ programs you can use the PPU with.

thats a 7900gt. Looked at mine and all memory modules, power connector, and even the cooler are identical. Even the nvidia logo on the pcb is a dead give away.

No stress...

Maybe I should've said "uses the PhysX hardware in a meaningful manner that could be considered to be a reasonable selling point for Ageia". I am well aware that the API is widely utilised, the hardware however is not.

You may well be right - it may very well pick up at some stage in the future but I struggle to see it sparking a mad rush for the hardware especially if the introductory price for the last release is anything to go by.

Medal of Honor is a big one as is UT3 but based on two games I like many others aren't going to rush out to buy the hardware.

Bah - you know where I stand on the PhysX hardware and their marketing strategy - there isn't much point in going around that block again. Still I'd hate to know how much they have invested in this paper weight.

LOL that's because you're looking at the picture of the 7900GT that someone posted later... altho the cooler pattern does bear an uncanny resemblance :D

I have to agree there marketing strategy is very poor.

In the list I posted look for
** = PhysX hardware support
*** = PhysX Accelerator required
In the other list it’s the game/programs with a + next to the name which are PPU enabled. - means software only.

The cooler is 100% deffenitly a Nvidia cooler there, I'm sure if Ageia made that they would be getting done for copywright lol, even litrally got an NV logo on.

Looking at the site that the images originally came from it doesn't look photoshopped but... http://www.pcpop.com/doc/App/222604/000577158.html
It does look a little sketchey - There have been some voltage regulators popped off in this first photo but conversely there does appear to be significantly more in the way of solder tracks and the like on it.

Tough one... Can someone check Fudzilla and see if ol' Fuad has been spinning again?
