Aight I'm gonna ask THAT question.

You can get a 250GB 360 for £160 if you look around. The PS3 seems the better option for the O/P. Its as always really dependant on your game choice and exclusives to that machine.

PSN is (in my experience) and much clunkier and more cumbersome interface than Live. However, its moot anyway as the OP doesnt want it.

In terms of exclusives, again its anecdotal only there seem to be vastly more exclusives going the PS3's way right now. There's always Gears and Halo I guess but more or less everything else seems to be heading multi platform or PS3.

I'm a 360 owner so I wish it was otherwise, but right now the only answer for an new owner with no MP requirements is a PS3.

This is the only point people are having trouble with, As to be honest both online experiences are very similar, Apart from Live having things like crossgame chat. But then PSN has the browser, and all the Iplayer type features going for it, Which the Live lacks.

The problem is you said PSN is horrific, And in no way is it so, You say you dont have one, which makes me question when you last tried PSN? As it isnt how it was on launch.

But anyways, Maybe your post wouldnt have been pounced on if you had actually said
"The PS3 online is clunky and cumbersome compared to Xbox Live"

Although even then I would disagree, but atleast that would have been a well put forward point of view on your part.
 
Both consoles are really unreliable, but consoles always have been ,I had 2 PS1's, 3 PS2's, 2 360's and 3 PS3's

I'm just unlucky, but on the plus side, I only ever needed 1 SNES, 1 N64 and 1 wii, nintendo are built to last

My 360 gets the most time spent on it for gaming as it pretty much always out performs the PS3 in multi platform titles, but for watching blu-ray and streaming from the pc I use the ps3, the 360 is just as good at streaming (even better picture quality on a lot of movies) but I have an old one so it is a tad noisy,

Woh, my error from the look of things, There's loads more than I even knew about! And I'm a big RPG fan :D whoops.

Wierdly i never thought about Yakuza. It is an RPG.

wasnt really thinking about future RPG releases, but considering its a new purchase it probably should have been thought about.

Loads there I've not heard of, Ni no Kuni I forgot about, I think i even made the official thread on this forum :D

And we're all very much looking forward to FFvs13. Which as far as I'm aware is a sony exclusive, but i guess it could end up on 360 considering the 13 did, seems unfair to stop 360 players being able to play when they've had a taste of 13.
 
depends...do you want to play exclusives? I'm playing metal gear solid 4 atm, it's a cracking game so I'd go for ps3 every time.
 
Soooo.. given that here in the middle east getting things repaired is touch and go, i should opt for the store warranty? It's going to be from Sharaf DG which is pretty much like a high street store named after spicy food in the UK. If the reliability is... debatable, I may as well just get the crappy warranty just in case. Especially as ambient temperatures are much higher here.

Also, thanks to everyone for your input so far. I was genuinely going to flip a coin then ignore the results and buy a Wii out of confusion, but this thread has been of huge help. It's a lot of money, really, to spend on uninformed impulse buying. Realistically i could live healthily on 1,600DHS for a month or more!

Thanks for keeping this alarmingly civilised! I'm going to print up tshirts for everyone in this thread: "I was in an OCUK Console War and nobody died" and on the back: "Achievement Unlocked"! :D

If the extended warranty costs aren’t too expensive and its hard to find repair outlets where you are, then yes I’d maybe recommend a repair plan. PS3 reliability is almost an oxymoron for me. I agree with the poster who said games consoles are not reliable, they aren’t..

So with this in mind, expect that after two years anything past this is a bonus and for peace of mind then if its not too expensive look for extended warranty – hopefully it’ll cover for at least three years.. By then I’d expect the console to have reduced in price even further and hopefully by then it’ll become a disposable item much like a DVD player…

I do recommend you buy one with the largest HD you can afford. 320GB is a really good PS3, it’s a decent sized HD and should last you quite a while before you run out of space..

Went with teh cheaper option, 320gb, one controller, one game (Ass Creed Brotherhood).

None of the two controller two game options had games i cared about, so seemed pointless paying extra for it.

Managed to find a sensibly priced HDMI cable too, none of this gold plated individual sleeve interference free buzzcocks.

Result: Happy.
