Aircon Regas

In fact thinking about it, my dad's C240 is 10 years old, still has ice cold aircon also. Lots of experience with stuff over 5-10 years old and all of it usually is spot on with regards to temperature!

Heard of good work from the Kwikfit aircon offer, by the way - although I guess it's totally variable depending on what branch and staff you get. Can't hurt to try it though! :)

Thinking about it the aircon in the 530d is spot on as well and given thats the same age as mine, and its been in the family since it was 2.5 years old, thats probably never had a regas either.

If the refrigerant level drops to a certain point the compressor will not kick in, as there is not enough pressure to run the system safely, so when it's reached this point, the fuel consumption will NOT decrease as it won't activate, so it'll be like it's not switched on.

My car isnt even 2 years old and its had 2 refill's, Ford have now put in a dye to see if theres a bloody leak, since i had it done 2 days ago, the aircon has actually been better than when the car was new.

I was alsways under the impression cars should only need to be re-gassed every 5 years, according to the 'engineer' at the dealers, if its isnt used for long periods of time, the seals shrink and the gas can escape.I certainly dont think this was the reason for mine being crap tho.

I had my old mondeo done, it cost £55 in the west midlands.

Thats a decent price, most places are closer to ~£100

I got mine done on my focus for £40 a couple of weeks ago at an independant. It had practically stopped working, nice and cool again now though :)

If you have a temperature probe, you should be able to get the temperature in the actual ducts down to well below 10 degrees at minimum temperature setting - sometimes closer to 5 :)

it should blow cold in less then a minute too

Mine's cool once it gets going but it does take 30secs to a minute to get cool, and when it does get cool it's really cool, ice cold!

(7 year old car)

edit, W plate is 8 years old actually...

Lol, coincidents.

Literally an hour ago I was in my car and though "hmm, wonder if this could benifit from a regas, im not very cold...."

Let us know how it goes.

I didn't really want to take mine to KwitFit for it to be done, so I had a hunt around and found somewhere local that does it for £30 so it's worth looking around.

I actually found that place advertising on eBay, but I knew which garage it was when I saw the ad.

I guess it's a similar concept to topping up your engine oil, sure it will be below the minimum mark on the dipstick, but the car still runs fine, although it's not a good idea, as it may affect the efficiency of the engine, if the air conditioner hasn't got the right amount of refridgerant, then surely there must be something else in there instead, (air?) the compressor will try to compress air and there will be air floating around the system surely? That should therefore mean the compressor is working harder?
