I have this to build. (Picture's not mine ofcourse, but he's done a fantastic job on it hasn't he.)

It's massive, it will end up a year+ long project going from how long I spent on my Typhoon. Not sure I want to start it yet!

Liking the 109 phil.

Looks fantastic mate. Im no expert, it may not be suitable at all, but what about a peice of thick fishing line? You can get it various colours, a dark line may fit the bill! Not sure how you'd fix it in place though.

I was thinking maybe some nylon or something - it needs to be very fine obviously. I'm not sure, will have to investigate, see what others use.

Nice work there Phil. What scale is that?

Thanks! It's 1:32. I like all scales but I prefer the larger ones as they suit my larger hands. I've got a 1:24 Airfix Spit Mk1a in the cupboard, and I want to get that Junkers 87B as well. All go with my Hurri which you can see a few posts above. But I have got some 1:48's to work on as well, which are nice in a way because they are much quicker to do.

Might purchase myself a few new model kits. All the ones I've got are from when I did them was I was little, and it would be nice to have some with proper colours... I'm sure they didn't have green and blue Spirfires or blue, green and brown Lancasters during the war. And most of them are damaged some way or another. :(

I'm thinking I might just get a few Airfix 1:72 Spirfires or something to start off with. Is there a really decent shop that I should look at buying from first? e.g. cheap prices and delivery! :D

Superb modelling, I used to as a lad but they were all terrible, perhaps now I will try again if I can find time.

my father passed away recently and left behind a vast collection of models.Mainly planes, but warships, tanks and cars too. Some dating back to the 70's. He loved to build them but just loved to collect them too. Ive got literally hundreds now sitting in an 80 sq ft storage unit, Airfix, Revell, Hasegawa, Tamiya, etc. Mpst of them fully boxed and untouched, some even with the plastic still on. Some of them I know are worth a fortune too. Got a massive Rockwell B1-B, one of the biggest models to ever go on sale I believe, not sure of the scale. Plus all the paint, airbrushes, compressor, tools etc. Could set someone up for life with all the gear. Looking to sell most of it unforunately as we dont have the space. Will be keeping most of the tools but plan on selling all the planes.
Anyone know of places that buy rare second hand models?

There a some places that will buy the lot off you or also sell them for you and take a cut.

E-bay is your next best thing really if you are happy with the hassle.

The B-1 you mentioned will be in 1/48 and should get around £30

Let me know and I will get you some names.

...there's a few little issues, and I want to add an aerial wire somehow, which I will do once I've found the best way to do it.
Bicycle derailleur cable, a single strand from the cable?

I'd imagine asking nicely at a bike shop if they've got an old one in the bin from doing repairs.

Thanks for the info guys, have got my little brother sorting it out now. Found out some of the war ships he had are worth several hundred dollars.

If anyone is willing to collect, I have a big stack of scale modelling magazines to give away. Let me know :)

Getting back into modelling at the moment

Recent purchases

P-61 Black Widow 1/48 Monogram Revell
Tamiya FW 190 F8 1/48
P51 Mustang Hasegawa 1/48
Italeri Dauntless 1/48
B339 Buffalo 1/48

Should keep me going for a while. I normally stick to tanks etc so this will be a pleasant change.

What great work! That cockpit is impressive. :) What are the dimensions?

Ah love this thread. Pieman that Mustang is stunning! I presume that is Tamiya's latest and greatest there? How you get on with it - any complicated things to deal with? Do you have any more photos you could share with us?

I've been a bit busy with my 10 month old but I intend to crack on with my Tamiya Mustang 1/48 builds over christmas (I've got 2 different ones). It's the first time I have tried to use Alclad for a natural metal/alu finish and it's quite a challenge! But I've also been collecting the Airfix 1/24 - I've now picked up the Spitfire Mk1a, the MkVb and the JU87b. I got both the JU87b and the MkVb for a lot less than retail so I'm quite pleased about that. Haven't a clue when I will get the time to build them though!

Beautiful work fella, that Tornado cockpit looks amazing, I assume thats the Revell 1/32 ECR kit ?

yep its the revell ECR one, 'orrible fit in a lot places and the panel lines needed to rescribed due them disappearing from where they should be probably due to worn moulds. Its on the back burner atm as I've done/ doing a coupla different things modelwise.

Yes mate, thats the 1/32 scale Tamiya versh. Absolutely outstanding kit that virtually builds itself, the fit of the parts is staggeringly good (I've built 2 of 'em so far and they've both gone together identically). As and example theres absolutely NO glue at all on the wing/ fuselage join, what you see fitwise involved no work at all, it just fits like that. if they was a kit that I would recommend to a reasonably competent/ basic skilled modeller, it would be this one. As long as you read the instructions and plan ahead what area you're going build first, you can't go wrong. The only thing against it is the cost, thick end of a ton, but imho, its worth every penny.
Heres some pics of the RAF Mustang IV I did and anither of BBD, and yes, the cowlings do fit that well with the engine installed in the kit and they're not glued in place either, just held on by MAGNETS. I think that shows what I'm talking about.
