Airfix

Literally just started a thread identical to this ones op!

So basically want to get a good beginner set to have a go with! Dabbled in it as a kid with my grandad but just suddenly wanted to try and make something to go on my computer desk and maybe become a hobby as im a bit tired of todays gaming scene unless its a souls game!

Any suggestions for where to start, kit needed, thanks!

seeing all the built and in progress models makes me want to start building models again.

Id like to build one of the Scania V8 1/24 scale trucks, print my own decals to put on it.

Another staggeringly gorgeous model, Plasma. How long do they take you, on average?

Thanks all.

I started this build on 02/08/15 so it's been my quickest build yet.

TBH, my missus was away for a week with our girls at her mums so i basically had anytime I wanted to do my modelling.

is that a kit or are you building from scratch ? If its a kit what kit is it. Been looking for a falcon for years and the usual places I go to for models only have the really low detail ones......... :(

I think he's referring to the deagostini magazine which you build in parts. It's based on the master replicas ESB studio model.

Just finished the Moebius Monster Scenes Giant Insect Kit I purchased at local model shop a while ago. Not my usual subject for kits, but it looked like it would be a fun build.

And it was!

Tamiya’s 1/35 M51 Super Sherman.

Here we have Tamiya’s 1/35 M51 Super Sherman.

Background:

The M51 Sherman

By 1961 the Israeli Government ordered the new and more powerful French 105 mm Modèle F1 gun. However due to their length, these were modified for the use in Shermans: The barrel was reduced from 56 caliber to 44 and equipped with a muzzle brake, while ammunition was altered to use a smaller cartridge. Due to the nature of the conversions (based on Cummins M4A1s) the hulls were married with modified M4(76) turrets. By 1965 the new tanks named officially M51 Sherman but also "Super Sherman" or "Isherman" (or Israeli Sherman). The M51 was revealed to the public in a Independence Day ceremony in 1965. 180 Shermans were so converted. By this time M50/51 constituted the bulk of the Israeli tank force, prior to obtain the British Centurion. Non-converted Shermans were used for other duties.

Off work at the moment following knee surgery, so this week I've mostly been building a pair of Testors 1:32 "Salt Flat Racers" easy builder kits, circa 1960s.

Pretty basic kits, as they were initially released in 1961 as easy build kits for kids, and were initially provided with rubber band driven running gear so the kids could race them along the kitchen floor!

From this:

To this, via a bit of detailing / scratch building!

Must have a hunt on ebay for the other two variants in this series of kits!
