Did royal mail bring them?

Not sure, I mean my usual postman first passed by and delivered some mail then another guy came and brought the headphones without having to sign anything. The package says USPS on the label though.

I take it no charge to pay? which is good news!

No charge at all.

Overall it took 25 days from the initial order date for it to arrive and 9 days from the shipping date.

Judging from the Massdrop discussion topic it seems many people from the UK have received theirs today.

So those who have been home and have opened them up... thoughts? I don't finish work until 3PM

Compared to my HD 595 the bass is lean. The sound signature is neutral and very spacious. Every minute detail can be heard. Build quality seems rather plasticky and the headband feels uncomfortable at first.

Lean against the 595? they must be really lean in that case. What you got powering them?

Asus Xonar Essence STX. The upper frequencies are really very 3-dimensional. It sounds like I'm in a live concert hall. Everything is just neutral and balanced which causes less listening fatigue.

Are using the higher gain settings on stx?

Yes +12db High Gain.

To be honest when I say the bass is lean I mean the bass isn't overpowering. It's neutral and accurate.

I've come to a decision on which one between the X1 and Q701 I am keeping.

The Q701 is made of PVC by the way so it is very tough.

Rather a pretty headphone I'd say, definitely grows on you when sat there

The AKG K712 Pro is subjectively as good as a modified Q701:

I don't see the point in spending extra for the K712 Pro.
