I'm a die hard united fan. But when the smith incident happened today did anyone else just feel as though the result just didn't matter anymore?

Smith is such a class player, my favourite in the united team, got his name on my shirt etc. Just seeing ruud's reaction was horrible. There's nobody in the premiership who's as determined as smith during a match and he just didn't deserve what happened today. All week i've been looking forward to todays match and usually i'd have been gutted over the loss, but i just didn't care after the incident, the smith injury was the hardest thing to stomach since england/argentina in 98. I might be over exagerating this since im a utd fan, but i think its fair to say all united fans love smith and we're all gutted about what happened.

Get well soon alan, hope they look after him so we'll see him walk out at old trafford again someday.

I did feel sick but not just because hes a United player i felt the same way when
i saw the pictures/footage of Cisse,Busst,Larsson all of those sort of breaks

I just hope he can play again someday terrible way for a career to end if thats the case

You maybe should have added this to the other thread where all this
is being discussed

Yup totally agree, i really like smith as a player because he is an extremly determined player and will run himself into the ground for the club, (unlike most of the current man utd squad). What happened today was terrible, bad enough having a broken leg but having a dislocated ankle on top is just harsh.
Hopefully he will get better and we will see him play again, but an injury like this could spell the end :(

Nasty break for the guy. One of my mates works in the hospital they took him to and says it is touch and go whether they may have to amputate his foot. His ankle is in bits and if they operate on it there is a huge chance of infection and gangrene.

I hate Man United as much as the next Scouser but for this to happen to someone is nasty. Hope the guy recovers.

I really hope Smith isn't the second player this season to play their last game for Utd at Anfield, the other being Keane :( After seeing him being stretchered off I couldn't give a toss about the result.

Well your mate has broken about every rule in patient confidentiality then surely?!!?!

Ive seen that quote "from a mate in the hospital" on several forums now

Seems everyone knows this scouse porter

Not his patient so not really an issue. He just works there as a security guard and 'heard it on the grapevine'. Was The Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Yeah its been on loads of forums- liverpool is a small town mate, once one person knows the whole town knows.

is that true about the possibility of amputation?

surely thats a bit ott?

it's possible but there are no official details on the extent of the breakage or ankle dislocation. There will no doubt be many articles and reports on him tomorrow in the papers and various sporting websites.

As far as I am aware any member of staff who works within or under contract to any NHS organisation is required to repect the code of patient confidentiality. I havn't got a copy of the code of conduct myself, but I'm sure there will be one on the Department for Health website somewhere...

Depending on the type of ankle dislocation, it's entirely possible that an amputation may be required. Can't remember the player, but there was a case a few years ago when he dislocated his ankle and the team physio was forced to relocate it there and then on the pitch as it had cut off the blood supply to his foot. They said if it had been left to the hospital he would have lost it.

Jokester

bloody hell...poor guy.

Was awful to see especially when he just reached his arm out to the ref...looked awful.

Poor guy. Hope the match physio's were able to work the miracles they have done for other players.

was terrible to see on tv, especially when he started going blue, and the players around him all grimising when they saw him on the floor, i wouldn't wish that kind of injury on anyone! Hope he pulls through

Gerrard stopped him from looking at it by putting himself inbetween Smith's head and his ankle, he could have gone into shock if he had seen it. Good on Gerrard, we could do with him at Chelsea ;)
