Alan Smith

Its sad to see it happen to any player but Smith was abit of a hard man and the old "I will never play for Man U" on Soccer Am incident, I cant see any Leeds fans losing any sleep over this.

Oh well, he will still be on more money than any of us even if hes does have to retire now.

I couldn't give a rat's ass what Leeds fans think of this, no doubt it'll be cannon fodder should they somehow scrape into the Premiership next season. I wouldn't think that it would be top of Smith's worries either at the minute.

In the extreme circumstance that he would be forced to retire, Smith strikes me as someone who would continue some sort of career in coaching or helping youngsters out early in their careers.

Get well soon Alan :(

What was said on that site, it says he will be out for at least 8 months. I think I heard on *** news it was 18 at least, no 8.

Its a shame to hear about this to happen to any player, im also glad to see yesterday, that not was only Man U Physics and players round him, but all the Liverpool medics and physios had come on, and both teams players round him. Thats whats footballs really about, when someone is in trouble or pain, screw the game, its the player that matters.

Ive always liked Alan Smith. He always plays with a lot of heart and it is very sad that this has happened. You could tell it was serious when the liverpool staff had to go down there as well to give assistance. One thing that could give some hope though is that when Cisse broke his leg the liverpool physios were instrumental in making sure his leg was okay. If they had not acted as they did then cisse might have lost his leg. Hopefully the physios would have had the experience to deal with it in the best way possible allowing a full recovery when the time is right.

i really hope he plays football again he was such a talented striker but then in the last year took over the roy keane holding position. i feel really sorry for him

i didnt see the game i read about it on BBC Football and when i read what happened i felt sick. nobody deserves this, especailly smith as hes so dedicated to man utd and gives 100% in every game.

hope he gets well soon....i will miss not seeing him in a man utd shirt for a while...:(

Its a real shame about Smithy. Was listening to his agent on Talk Sport this morning. Described as the consumate professional. Tee Total. Stops behind for training every day. Does a hell of a lot of work for charity. Always 100% commited to the cause. Shame UTD have messed him about so much really as he can do a fantastic job upfront or playing on the right.

He's a determined lad and this injury will not beat him in the mind at least. As said in this thread it makes players like Robben look like the mercenaries that they are. I remember just after we signed Rooney and he was interviewed and asked if he feared for his place "Absolutley not. At any club you have to fight for your place and play on merit" That was the same week that Craig Bellamy went on strike at Newcastle and walked out because they had signed another forward.

Some players are just good human beings (Alan Smith) and some just arent (Craig Bellamy), thats why this feels especially bad because it happened to a genuinely nice guy.
Im glad to hear that he will be back, because it reminded me of that David Bursst leg break - that was horrific and there was a big patch of black blood on the pitch but Smiths leg just looked as much as mangled as David Bursst granted his bone didnt go through the skin (luckily).
And David Bursst didnt come back to play again, so i'm glad Smith will be back, I think they must have pulled Smiths bones to the normal shape, because if the Phsyio's didnt do that to Cisse - pull his leg back into place he would have had to have had his leg amputated now, so i'm guessing they did the same to smith, very painfull.
Get well soon dude.

Home phsyio is best kitted out to deal with serious injuries - they are expected to go on in these situations.

Cant help but feel there is a lot of tosh being posted on this issue. Smith is one of the most foul-mouthed players in the premiership - uses F-words like punctuation, and has few fans beyond his club. The injury is a neat little distraction for united fans to focus on after what was another inept performance. Its clearly not the best news for the lad, but he has a pretty decent healtcare policy and will be on paid leave for the duration of his recovery.

havn't seen a lot of the video footage but didn't one of the man u players at one stage try and get him to stand ? see to remember something ot MOTD where a player was standing over him holding is hands trying to pull him onto his feet?

if so bet smith was well chufed with him doing that.

OMG he swears!!! Jesus, sack him!! I think you'll find that most players in the Premiership swear, wake up and open your eyes and ears. We only get to see him on the pitch, and there are countless stories of people who personally know him and say he's a down to earth guy, helps out with charity work and is generally a nice bloke.

Yes we played crap yesterday, I don't think any United fan would argue with that. Most of us are concerned about Smiths injury and I personally couldn't care less about the result after seeing it. The injury was going to overshadow the game regardless of who won. :o

the referee told Wes Brown to help him to his feet. it wasn't until he tried to hold him up that Brown noticed something was wrong and put him back down.

Yeah of course, who says Ferguson has lost his tactical nouse? "Listen Alan, we look like we're going to lose this game so I want you to go on, run around for a bit then engineer a career threatening leg break in order for us to save face". Jesus christ what are you on?

I broke my lower leg/ankle just like his almost 2 years ago, It hurts but he'll be fine. Mine is as strong as new now and doesnt cause any pain in the cold etc mine took a good year to feel as new again but with the amount of treatment he'll get i'm sure he'll be good as new way before then.
