The platform benefits being negated by lack of supply of RAM really must hurt the motherboard vendors sales, especially as many will simply avoid buying into dead end DDR4 when looking at a significant upgrade from the likes of 6700K's etc. as that was already DDR4 and it makes it seem a lot less sensible. I've had to tell so many people that they simply can't just buy the RAM they need, and will need to hunt around for it to get it at a good/sensible price.

There is no DDR5 anywhere, kind of embarrassing for Intel.

It's not really Intel's fault, although they were supposed to be doing CPU/RAM bundles like they did with RAMBUS, however it seems that they marketing side of things didn't win out, or they couldn't secure enough supply to actually make the offer work. Either way it is a shame that people are being almost forced to buy dead-end DDR4 boards/RAM if they wish to use this new platform.

So far ahead in some games, it's doubtful 3D v cache stands a chance

Against ddr4 it might be closer but against good tuned ddr5, no chance. Maybe one of the amd owners here with a 5950x can run the same and compare “cpu game” to see how much performance stacked cache would have to add to bridge the gap.
