Alex Jones..

Really Youtube and Facebook control all the information on the internet?

I remember when there were these things called find things or locate something Search Engines that didn't need to run through facebook or youtube, and you could even remember the names of sites you were interested in, and make notes of them, some of those old fashioned browsery thingies even used to let you mark them down as places you liked to visit, I think they called them bookmarks.
Admittedly these things tend to require people actually go to more than one site, and they may (horror of horrors) have to make use of more than just the links on their homepage.

The only thing that these companies have done is stopped providing him free advertising and use of their services, oddly enough companies and sites can survive quite well without running everything through the youtubes or the bookfaces,

No one is stopping Jones and his happy band of hucksters from having a presence on the internet, all that is happening is that companies are deciding they don't want to support him by having him using their services.

Really, you can't see their monopolistic reach of videos and social media? That goes un-noticed by you does it?

The level of ignorance on this forum astounds me sometimes.

They may not control all information, I never said they did; but these things evolve, and many of you are supporting attacks on free speech just because you don't like the guy.

Wait until free speech is curtailed via 'terms of service'.

It's funny how Trump supporters claim to be against fake news, but complain when Alex Jones is kicked off Facebook.

I didn't post the wrong link. If you want articles that specifically discuss Alex Jones' role in the promotion of Pizzagate, read these:

'Anatomy of a Fake News Scandal.'

''Pizzagate' gunman pleads guilty as conspiracy theorist apologizes over case.'

'Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones Apologizes For Promoting 'Pizzagate'.'
So this is covered in the Joe Rogan 911 podcast, 34 mins in, you can actually see the video your sources talk about, and how Alex Jones flips it to actually talk about Syria not pizzagate, this is why I stay out of this stuff, because no one seems to make any sense. I'm heading back to the gfx card forum :E

Why is this so complicated?

Him being banned from YouTube or Facebook etc doesn't violate his right to free speech.

It just means those companies don't want to host his **** because he is a demonstrably horrible person.

He threatened to shoot a federal attorney for goodness sake.

This has nothing to do with his 1st amendment rights. It has everything to do with him being a disgusting human who incites violence and peddles nonsense.

I would fight for his right to continue to spout rubbish, but he has no right to peddle his nonsense on someone else's website and no right to threaten federal employees with being shot.

You don't just get rid of someone just because they are spouting nonsense.

The correct thing to do is make your own platform debunking Alex Jones. Let the people decide for themselves.

You lefties will eat yourselves sooner or later.

You don't just get rid of someone even if they are spouting nonsense.

What you do is make your own platform debunking Alex Jones.

You lefties will eat yourselves sooner or later.

I think its the threatening to shoot people that got him banned.

If he stuck to peddling inane rubbish, then I doubt YouTube/Facebook would have taken such drastic measures.

Either way though, there is no prejudice involved in not serving someone simply because they are demonstrably a ****.

What you seem to be missing is that no one took away Alex Jones' platform.

They removed him from their own.

and the lefties comment is laughable.

I dunno, I suspect that at some point censorship on these platforms might well get looked at. We've already seen that they're powerful tools with regards to targeted ads etc...

It is a bit different to say a forum like this one or similar.

I do wonder if the likes of Youtube, Facebook, twitter etc.. will be seen more like utility companies in future.

(obviously in this specific case, if he's threatened to shoot someone that is going way over the line)

This really. It sounds like other posters are saying that Facebook/Alphabet etc. should take responsibility for people not bothering to check other websites, which does seem a bit over the top. People are free to set up other websites, including this person (whom I hadn't heard of before this thread) and say what they like there. No one is preventing him from espousing his views on his own platform (though I admit, it may get into a bit greyer territory if ISPs for instance were blocking access to any site he set up), they are just preventing him from doing it on thier own platform. The fact that many people seem to not want to go to other platforms, doesn't make it the platform's responsiblity.

We're going to walk into the square, politically,..

Jones said, miming a pistol with his hand.

“It’s not a joke. It’s not a game. It’s the real world. Politically. You’re going to get it, or I’m going to die trying, bitch. Get ready. We’re going to bang heads. We’re going to bang heads.”

You saying that if I start ranting in a pub it's ok if they kick me out

Multiple pubs even

I can't rant outside in the cold. It might be raining and my fellow drunks won't leave the pub to listen to me.

My rights to rant in someones pub are being oppressed!

"President Obama is a radical Muslim, prays to Mecca 5 times a day" was one of his, wasn't it? Ahead of the presidential elections iirc.

How he's not been locked up is beyond me.
