Personally it's because all of the characters behave in a monumentally dumb way most of the time.

Let's go to an alien planet where we suspect/know there is life. But let's not bother with any decent bio-safety protocols or just ignore them when it's inconvenient. Because Scott disliked Cameron's queen we move to a bio weapon approach for Xeno's that works but is done badly. They wake up hibernating Engineers with no apparent plan about how they might react or how to establish contact. If there is a bad choice to be made our genius characters make it. Both films were really really jarring for me. A better writer was needed to bring the ideas too fruition.

To say that I was devastated by just how poor I felt this film was would be a monumental understatement, and this is 100% true if an over-reaction I know, but I've never worn any of my Alien Universe t-shirts, hats etc since nor watched the follow-up film either.

Other than that I thought it was OK though :D
