Alienware AW3821DW or Samsung G9?

Where the pictures ? ;)
Why were you underwhelmed with it ?

you've sent it back? if so any reason why you did it

Just didnt get on with the settings, the vignetting at the top whilst not as bad as the LGs, are still there.
Also I experienced the same eye strain/headche that I did with the LGs. I suspect my eyes are not used IPS panels, as I have been using VA panels for the past 15 years.

Ironically going back to my 35" AOC I personally feel is more comfortable on the eyes for me.

The Dell is a great panel, and for gaming is top notch. A lot of people have it on here so its definitely not a bad monitor, just a fussy user ;)

Thanks for the Picture and reply :)

I have no idea why but i thought it was the 49" samsung G9 you bought and that you were underwhelmed with the G9

I love IPS panels for there great viewing angles & colours but due to my room is normally pretty dark the IPS glow and terrible blacks annoy me far to much.
I always been really fussy about my TV & monitors blacks levels , Wish i wasn't as this has cost me a dam fortune over the years :D

Maybe you should try a G9 with it also being a VA panel
I for your pictures of it :D

I love to try MS FS2020 on a G9..But the Gpu power needed to run a G9 puts me off buying one

Hehe it did enter my mind (about the G9)
But performance hit would be just too much even though I have a 3080, I want to be able to play games on full detail without sacrificing on anything including FPS!

Meh wait until you see the next gen of UW. I saw yesterday dell has a new 5120 x 2160 40" curved screen out for $2100.

Even my 3090 would mean turning down details on that! Its exactly 50% more pixels than the G9 and 80% more than the AW3821

I have a 3080 and don’t need to sacrifice quality on any game even at 240hz.

The Aw38 is being collected tomorrow, return service from Dell is superb.

The AW38 is impressive in so many ways but once one has experienced the breadth of display that the G9 offers it’s difficult to readjust back.

I would recommend the G9, especially now that most, if not all of the driver and firmware issues have been resolved.

You are running CoD:MW in region of 240fps with all details on full including RT?

Did you try the AW38 I assume? So you still think the G9 is superior?

Got me tempted :p But the res is just big.... especially for games like MSFS[/QUOTE]

I did unpack and try the AW38 but given the vista provided by the G9 I wasn't impressed enough to be swayed.

I tried the games I usually play such as Farcry 5 and Divinity Original Sin 2 and the experience with the much wider screen was on a different level.

Also tried movies, again preferred the G9.

But.

I don't play CoD or other online FPS where the AW38 might be superior due to the relatively restricted screen size.

I am thinking of investing in MSFS because was really into flight sims many years ago and can imagine on the G9 they would look stellar.

Ive just been watching some videos of the G9... it does look impressive no doubt.

But 30% increase of pixels... gonna be a big hit in performance which...

Well put it this way, I upgraded by rig to enjoy higher FPS.

So Ill be going back again to same fps I was used to if I get a MUCH higher res panel like this one :)

Unless the 4080 comes out soon of course ;)

You could run games at 3440x1440 with black bars for when you do want higher FPS ;)
