Alita: Battle Angel (2018)

Saw it again in 2D tonight, I actually prefer the 3D version!
Saw it on Saturday and because of your comment i decided to see it in 3D. Admittidely i haven't seen many movies in 3D but this is the best use of 3D i have ever seen.

Really enjoyed the film, there were a few cheesy moments but overall i felt it was a good film. Hopefully they do deliver on a sequel.

The 3D works for the film better, it's not overly done, it doesn't do those silly tricks where something comes at your face as a shock to make you dodge. It does it more a texture way and subtle way. It really does bring the world more to life.

2D in comparison, for lack of the better word, looks flat, more muted.

Me and Mrs went to see this, we both really enjoyed it. I also thought it was a stunning film to look at.

Didn't feel long either, I really hope we get another

8/10

I saw it last night, was impressed with the cgi, good movie overall i enjoyed it, the 3D wasnt that inspiring, just added depth, and the ending was an anti climax, hope they make a sequel

Jesus.
The CGI and the world is great. The story, characters and plot is some of the worst writing I have ever seen in a film.
10/10 looks And 2/10 for non stop face palming, dialogue and general ridiculousness in a stupid way.

I guess I'll go watch the cartoon to compare it.
I recognize the rocket pick thing from a game
?

Didn't realise this had its own thread, so I will repost this:

I watched Alita Battle angel today and I enjoyed it more than most here it would seem, and I've never seen the manga.

It started really good, had some good action sequences and actually used real sets (for the most part) which is always a bonus in sci-fi.

The ending was a bit wet, it definitely tapered off towards the end and had some really laughable bits:

Jennifer Connelly, managing to severe a guys head in a dirty old building and link it to Alita's heart in about 5 mins.

And the later reveal that Vector had put her brains in a jar, and the eyes were still looking around

Despite that I'd give it 4/5.

She was one of the top cybernetic surgeon from Zalam in the comics, and the little head type jar is an example of the sort of work they did (placed human brains/eye in a housings and removed their emotion centres) so the jar heads could work in certain menial jobs facing the residents of the junk city that required some human thinking, but couldn't betray them/accept bribes etc.

Although doing major surgical work in the dirty factory is a bit much, but then they routinely do major surgical work involve brains/spines in in fairly basic doctor's offices ;)

As many others have said, great world-building, looked great, enjoyed the cinematography but for something that was in development for so long the dialogue made me wince at times and the plot could have been a lot tighter. So much potential though, hope if there's a sequel they can fix these issues.

Finally got round to watching this. Agree with the general consensus that it's a much more enjoyable film than the critics would suggest.

The dialogue is a little cheesy at times, but hey, this is a Jim Cameron screenplay, comes with the territory. The sporting event trope is a little tired but I guess that's from the source material.

In general, miles better than most popcorn cinema in recent years, nice antidote to the one dimensional MCU conveyor belt. great performance from Salazar imo. Lots of good supporting characters.

I'll be going to the cinema for the next installment.

I enjoyed Alita quite a bit, I'm hoping that there's a sequel down the line. In the era of Marvel it's refreshing to have something a bit different, I certainly enjoyed it more than any of the recent Marvel movies.

I watched this, End Game and Cpt Marvel over three nights and Alita was easily the best of the three - hoping for a sequel

alita did will in the box office to warrant a sequel or two and james Cameron has stated he got notes on the material to do at least two more movies plus the over all material there enough to create a franchise, but it might be awhile until we see a sequel as fox has recently merge with Disney. Disney priority at present would be the IP they were working on prior to merger plus integrating the marvel IP that fox had rights too, for example fantastic Four, X-men and Deadpool etc Characters.

There is probably enough material in the original manga to do at least another 3-5 films.

They've not even got to the end of the first set of books with the first film, then there are two other main story arcs as their own books from memory.
