Having just seen another thread closed in here and a few members suspended for comments made I feel it is time that we in SA calmed down and start to let our heads rule our hearts when posting in here otherwise we may all find ourselves in trouble.

We all know that this is a passionate pastime of us all but the last thing I want and I am sure you all want is to lose accounts over arguments and insults.

Therefore I suggest we all try to calm it down and start to try and understand others points of view and opinions, otherwise the forum itself could find itself in danger.

So I think its time we all take a step back, and think before we post from now on.

yeah time for everyone involved to calm down, that man utd vs arsenal match means a lot to some of us but it was getting way out of hand

From one Man U fan to another well said Memph! :)

I generally stay out of the Spoiler threads either because i wanna watch it on the tele and not know the result, which is very hard in this house! or because i know i'll end up arguing with all the Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Leeds fans.

Dont think theres much more to say? Should we ban the Spoiler threads?

...

i dont think they should be banned i think that this one got out of hand, most of it was basically footy arguement but some personal insults came into it right at the end and ruined it.

Id say most of it was a good thread and people were just putting their points accross

agreed mate however it tends to get heated on the point of insults very very quickly nowadays especially where Man Utd and arsenal are concerned. This tends to at some point boil over to insults.

I have noticed a rise in other things as well such as saying people are just being silly, stupid etc etc, these are not in essence insulting but they are derogatory depending on the way people take things like this.

All of this eventually adds up to insults been thrown as some of the threads are just like volcanoes waiting to explode. Some of these never quite reach critical mass some of them do but it is all of them we need to keep an eye on before others are suspended, banned for it.

Big Kev, I think there was a lot of flaming going on before then it calmed down but yesterday and today it came back. Would you agree?

I think i need to stop responding to posts that annoy me as well

the flaming did calm down a lot but it has got back to the levels it was before over the last few weeks.

I dont think not posting to threads or posts that annoy you is the answer theough jazz.

Taking a step back thinking about it then posting with a clear head would be much better than a quick emotional response to a post that you find annoying if you know what i mean ?

that is where I know I have been going wrong as I read something get angry / annoyed then reply.

I have a feeling this is what a few others do as well. This is letting our Hearts rule our heads and I am probably the worst for it I know that but I am going to make a far more concerted effort to stop doing it from now on

Honest

:p

The sports thread has been great since its arrival and on the whole has been trouble free, considering the passion and vigour with which many people support their respective clubs, dont let a couple of isolated incidents marr that, the thread got out of control it was closed necessary steps were taken against offenders, leave it at that and move on.

I think one of the problems is something that i can be guilty of as well is people often post when returning from pubs and can damage otherwise good friendships, cool it down people or Blue'y and the other don's are gonna have to start booking a lot more people.

That Arsenal/Man Utd spoiler thread was stupid, I don't see why people can't just take another persons opinion as a different opinion and leave it at that. Banter is needed in this forum but it seems some people can't accept their team losing and banter turns to silly tit for tat arguing.

The problem is that this is football, people get annoyed, post things in the heat of the moment, it happens especially with football and opposing fans. Happens with fans of the same club as well. If you look at any of the Rivals.net sites the banter on those sites is 100 times worse than anything that is on here.

But with the forum rules as they are, people should IMOH think a bit more about what they post before they do so :D as to not resort to personal insults and suchlike. :D

Premiership Fans  ;)

As Ive said before, lets not give the initial doubters of the validity of this forum the satisfaction of saying "I told you so".

i do think extra moderation is needed in this forum.

Not saying Cem is doing a bad job cos he aint but it this is a real popular forum and im sure he hasnt got all day to be present and keep things carm which a or two new dons on this forum could do.

Maybe somebody like Gilly and Big Kev would be a good choice.

Anyways, im just saying people are going a bit over the top and need to remind themselves or be reminded that they are rule breaking.

I dont think we need another don or more donnie presence to be fair Afterlife.

What we do need is a lot more sefl control on our own parts. I mean this forum is very close knit everyone knows everyone most of us have been here long before the big nuke and consider each other friends.

This is not a forum where a lot of spammers are, not a froum where there are in my view any trolls, we are just all extremely passionate about the game of football, and like i previously stated in many instances our hearts rule or heads.

We should really be able to moderate ourselves in here as we all know each other and we are all friends (i think) Cem is there when things get wildly out of hand, he leaves us to moderate ourselves a good proportion of the time as we dont not need moderating and are able to do it for ourselves. If a donnie was here almost 24 /7 I dont think the forum would be as good as it is now as there have been instances where I have gone back and edited my posts as I'm sure others have as I have realised what I said was too far.

If a Donnie was here always we wouldn't have that oppurtuniyt and I think in the long term the forum is far better of for the way in which Cemetary runs it. By having more presence I feel would stifle the banter and the arguments and lead to the detriment of the forum. However there is a limit to what we should write, post etc and it is up to ourselves to control not only each other but ourselves as well.

Actually the moderation duties here are not too harsh but yes I cannot be around all the time BUT, what is needed for people to actually use the RTM function if things are too heated as almost guarenteed is that Blue will be about & ablue to deal. Please note he also is a don for this forum ;)

And as Nismo says lets not give the boo boys something to gloat over. For over a year this forum did very well wrt flaming content. Lets try & get it back that way please.

This forum doesn't need any more Dons or different Dons. Since it started, it has probably been one of the easiest to moderate - until very recently that is.

And yes, as already mentioned, this forum needs plenty of good natured friendly banter. People just need to know when not to move beyond banter. If someone posts something which you strongly disagree with then just sit back and tell yourself that it is understandable cos he's only a Manure supporter after all and doesn't know any better ;) :D

If there is any repeat of the nonsense in the closed spoiler thread then Cem and I will be experimenting with stopping the culprits ability to post in this Forum.

Gents, my personal opinion (for what it's worth) is that far too many people who post in this forum allow their hearts to rule their heads. There are some others who, franly, IMO are NOT football supporters. Rather they are out to cause havoc wherever and however they can.

We could start to calm things down by refusing to use the very emotive words such as hate and scum etc. Of course there are people who use this terminology but say they don't mean it as it sounds - so why use it? It only serves to wind up the younger members, who then start to use the same terminology ............ and worse! This has no place in the game of football. Perhaps we could also refuse to respond to a post which is plainly just out to flame. True we are all supporters of different teams and we want our own team to be successful, particularly when playing very close rivals. But we also share a love of "the game" and surely this must transcend all this hateful/flaming stuff.

Personally, I'm as RED (that's the original ManU red!;)) as they come. Supported them man and boy with standing and, laterly, seated season tickets. Cut me open and, as they say, I've got ManU running right through me. But I don't hate any other football supporters. I may feel that they may be misguided, but they are not scum!

Perhaps the word I am searching for is gentlemanly. Yes, that may be the word. By all means lets support our teams; discuss the positive and negative attributes, lets even be passionate! But please let's not call each other names and ridicule people. There really is no need for it, you know.

Dons? who needs Dons (sorry Cem). We're all human beings; most of us think fairly logically, and we should be adult enough to be able to moderate ourselves. If not, than perhaps we should seriously think about posting when we are in that type of mood.

That's it. My bit said. I'm not having a go at anyone in particular, they are general comments so nobody needs to take offence. All my own work and as always, IMO.

Oh, and by the way, we played absolute rubbish today! The lord only knows what's got into our mob. I just hope that they shake it out of themselves before it's too late to win anything.:D :D

The man speaks the truth :D ;)

I think u can count me as one of the people who react to quickly but i never ever flame anyone, i might call them silly or tell them i think their post is stupid but thats about as far as i go and i think ill stop that as well.

I think self control is needed not more mods

I admit I got wound up yesterday (Saturday) at what I saw as a trolling remark - just posting to call my team 'scum' for no particular reason other than Man Utd bashing.

Maybe I shouldn't rise to the bait.

On the other hand it would be nice if it didn't happen in the first place - it goes beyond the good-natured banter / rivalry I want to see :(
