All Football Fans In Here

In general I think banter and even arguments can all make for interesting reading. By that I mean if people explain why they disagree with somebody elses point of view, rather than just giving sweeping statements like "you must be a total blind idiot if you think that". Sure these explanations and arguements might sometimes seem quite aggressive, but as long as there is no personal insults etc I think it's fine.

Just remember that the number of good natured, interesting and fun threads far outweighs those which seem a little sour. I'm a relative newcomer to Sports Forum and don't post much anyway, although I have glanced at ocuk forums ever since they started selling overclocked slot A athlon 500s :). A couple of times I see things which seem out of place; but to be honest considering the emotions we all feel about football, it's no worse than what I see in other "debating forums" like Graphics cards. And certainly provides more interesting reading than bland stuff like PC/console games forum.

well ive called man utd manure before but only when people call arsenal "arse" also people called Wenger "Whinger" but it doesnt really annoy me but if it does offend people then it should stop

Also is it ok if i call fergie Targart :):D jk

i dont think any arsenal fan minds being called the gooners.

For good natured banter people can do a lot worse that look at what Rotty and myself do to each other. We both support rival teams (him Liverpool, me Everton) and take the mick out of each other, but it never degenerates into anything worse than that. I think a lot of people could take a lesson from that to see how the friendly banter should really be done without crossing the line.

It's more out of sympathy for your predicament than anything , I really wouldn't want to upset the less fortunate ;) :p

Crykers Jabronies, we have trouble in the Sports Forum???

How could there be such a thing in the love nest. Don't tell me it was those Arsenal BooHoo & Man U Who supporters. No wonder I stayed away from the Arsenal v Man U thread as they all tend to talk rubbish.

"We are gonna win this, we are gonna win that."

Need you forget, Liverpool will be the team holding the first cup of the year so, BooHoo.:D

They already did, having won the title in september. Don't remember who won it in november, deember and january though.:p;)

yes deember is a month, so there...

Lol /\/\/\/\

Tbh the banter between the bluenoses (j/k) everton and liverpool has wlaways been pretty good in my experience, as a liverpool fan i tend to have more run ins with manu fans etc, the same for man u, they tend have a far more fierce rivalry with us and leed than man c.

Tbh footy is all ribbing the other guys/supporters about their teams, i had to take a day of a few weeks ago when we lost to flippin palace cos i new i was gonna get a right urine extraction. we all get carried away sometimes, but football without passion is well, cricket?:p

I'm going to speak frankly as we're in an adult discussion.

Scum is not a term I use to be in any way derogatory. It is like calling Manchester United 'United' or Manchester City 'City' or Sheff Wednesday 'The Owls'. I could go on.

It is purely a term I use to refer to the red half of Manchester. Up until recently I did not have the words 'Manchester United' in my vocabulary at all. And I didn't miss them. It was people here that were bothered, I stopped using them.

Banter is, by definition, a two-way thing. Man U fans refer to their team as anything but Manchester United, they have several names for their team (such as United, Reds, Man U, etc) and I have but one :) Leeds have been referred to as scum more than once in this forum. Fair enough, if someone can't think of a different name for another team thats fine. But I can't really see the sense in banning the use of the word scum in relation to any team here. Many southerners refer to Southampton as 'scum' and most northerners would know Manchester United as 'scum. Big deal. Leeds are called thugs, and (contrary to Cem's opinion ;) ) this is due to the disgusting way the fans acted throughout the dark ages of the 70's and 80's. Fighting and rioting. This was suffered by MANY clubs though.

Having said all this, only recently has any of this commonly resulted in personal insults. Though I have my own beliefs as to the cause of this.

I have always been bothered about Manchester United being referred to as United though. This would prolly partly stem from the fact that I support another United, but just as much would stem from the seemingly blinding arrogance that this portrays.

Since we are having an adult discussion and the point of this thread is to thrash things out, what do you believe is the cause?

Since I began using this forum I became aware of the resentment and anger that using 'United' to refer to Manchester United engendered in some quarters so I have endeavoured not to use that term (except probably in Man Utd specific threads - or would you not like to see that either?) so as not to cause offence. To me it's not a big deal but maybe I would say that as a Man Utd fan.

Anyway I take your point about 'scum' etc but some posters seem to enjoy posting in a Man Utd thread purely to make a derogatory remark about the team and call them scum. (And by implication, the supporters too.) To me that is trolling, not banter.

Personally I'd like to see an end to all those type of terms; scum, scummers, thugs, Arse, Whinger, etc. I don't like to see them and I think threads would get less heated in their absence.

I do think we should all thrash this out before moving on and reach some kind of consensus.. otherwise we'll be back here again in future..

i would like to point out it ******* annoys me to no end when you call united scum.I never (feel free to prove me wrong) called any other team by terms like 'scum' etc.I have done 2 but to people such as Gilly , this was simply because it was ******* annoying !! And i would like it to stop as i never refer to a team by 'scum' or anyother word :)
