All Football Fans In Here

I wish it would calm down a little, then people like Cemetery, Gilly, Da_Flash, Davey Pitch, Rotty and myself might start posting regularly again.

:(

Yup. One of the reasons I don't post so much any more is because I know I'll get carried away otherwise, so I try to restrict myself to the threads I know I can post away in merrily. Unfortunately there seem to be more and more people in here who enjoy winding people up, or post things which are blatently stupid, almost text-book trolling. Hopefully we can sort them out and bring the love back :)

Yes, well said mate.

Maybe more use of the RTM is called for over the next month ;)

Definately. We really don't get many RTM's from this forum at all when there really should have been a few more, although this forum is not really a trouble hotspot by any means there are a fair number of threads where a poster issues a calm warning to another. That is all well & good but press the ol RTM button as well please :)

Just read through that spoiler thread. Towards the end that got WAAAY over the top.

I don't think spoiler threads should be banned as they are very good for discussion, as was that last thread. Sadly it was spoiled by a few who took the argument too far and started with the personal insults.

Hopefully when they come back they will have taken a chill pill :) Or they can sit down and watch a Le Tissier video together, so that they can all agree on something.........that he was the greatest player that ever lived :p

It does kinds spoil the tone of the forum when people start to troll each other off. As neither an Arsenal or Man U fan I like to see the banter between the fans - it happens the same throughout football. I was having a similar conversation with a Rushden fan the other night, all good natured.

Personal insults and derisory remarks just aren't needed and anyone who posts them is simply a child who is unable to control their emotions and therefore shouldn't post in an adult forum. Those who feel tit-for-tat comments are needed are the same.

Lets all get on and realise the truth - in three years you'll all be trolling me as I boast about Hartlepool United's domination of the premiership while Man U - Arsenal will be the biggest fixture in Div 1:D :p ;) :p :D

too much flaming for my liking ATM so i have refrained from posting in the larger threads, purely because i myself would probably get worked up aswell :) hehe

only scan read this thread so am gonna have a proper read now!

I've never flamed anyone in here and I've never been flamed in here. If someone says something "blatantly stupid" it's most likely a joke which you can choose to respond to or not.

For good natured banter people can do a lot worse that look at what Rotty and myself do to each other. We both support rival teams (him Liverpool, me Everton) and take the mick out of each other, but it never degenerates into anything worse than that. I think a lot of people could take a lesson from that to see how the friendly banter should really be done without crossing the line.

i agree Davey but there are certain bits of "banter" that really do annoy me regardless of whatever else is posted.

I hate it when Man Utd are referred to as Manure, The scum, scummers etc etc

this to me is showing a blatant dis respect for the supporters and the fans. so regardless of what is posted when this happens I immediately start getting angry.

I think that all teams should be called by there full names or a accepted shortening and not to derogatory terms as that just makes matters worse.

Other things I can think of Are Arse, Gooners etc but most of this seems to be directed at Man Utd.

I actually agree with that, and don't think I've ever once referred to Man Utd in that way.

I have been known to refer to Arsene Whenger as Whinger I admit ;) I guess that's in the same category.

Would it be possible for us all to agree to call our teams and managers by their proper names (or accepted abbreviations) or is that naive of me :) ie. no more Manure, Arse etc. ?

I think that is a very good idea mate

Davey I wasnt refering to you I was tlaking in general about how some people refer to teams and this in my view contributes to arguments etc quite a lot.

Hmm, reference to Manchester United as "united" is fairly disrespectful and narking. tbh the concept of writing down all our niggling annoyances for people to avoid is a joke. Anyone with sense can see when a thread is going loop da loop, those who stay and argue deserve everything they get. I'd like to see a clamp down on the use of ***** in SA as that's the main thing I get pee'd about (as well as "united").

erm I dont think referring to Man Utd as united is disrespectful if it is in a thread about Man Utd and say arsenal merely shortening the name, but in threads where other teams are involved with the same second name it probably is although I certainly cant remember that happening very often.

Calling the team scum, scummers or manure on the otherhand is a definite derogatory term same as Arse, Gooners etc It is these I think the forum would be better without as I think were all grown up and mature enough to call them by there real names.

With respect m8 I think what you've just said is contrary to the atmosphere people would like to see in this forum.

And calling Man Utd 'United' in a Man Utd-related thread is hardly disrespectful to Leeds, Newcastle, West Ham etc. in my opinion. People who do it in other threads don't mean disrespect to those other teams either - it's hardly in the same class as calling a team scum.

I have to admit that when I hear the name "United" I automatically think of Man Utd. This is because Leeds, Newcastle, West Hame et al are referred to like I just did, by the first part of their name. Man Utd are often called "United" so it never bothers me when Man Utd fans do it. IMO it's pedantic to pick up on it and be bothered by it, though obviously I may feel different if I supported a team who were also a United.

In what way??? Because I'm fed up of opening threads where people * out their venomous responses and use * to describe their teams performances. Frankly if people can't be bothered to think of word in the ictionary they shouldn't post at all, if people can't think of something nice or semi-amusing they shouldn't post at all. If people can't distinguish between jokes and insults/disrespect, they shouldn't post in this forum.

As far as the "united" thing goes, I don't care in a Man Utd thread. In general play I dislike a term that's been attached to my club for a long time being used as shorthand for Manchester United.

But Newcastle United can be shortened to Newcastle without causing problems. Manchester United cannot be shortened to Manchester for obvious reasons.

I have always referred to Man U as United (Although Man U would work) - and I don't get worried by saying Boro instead of Middlesbrough (Although Middlesborough winds me up).

I DO dislike the terms Manure and The Scum - that just heightens tension, which is something we don;t need in here. A level head should always be able to call them by a "proper" name (Although I can understand that you feel United is not "proper" - and I would agree in a discussion between Newcastle and Man U, but not between Arsenal and United - if you see what I mean) rather than resorting straight away to insults (Which calling them Manure and The Scum is IMHO)
