All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Well it will. With Gerrard there the midfield is 'seemingly' secure and you aren't looking for anyone new. I think you should be. Gerrard is seen as some sort of god that can do everything, but the truth is that for every goal/tackle/long ball for the cameras, he offers very little else.

Alonso is a far far better player.

He scores goals, he gets a lot of assists and he's the heartbeat of the team. What else is he required to do?

He's a better passer but Gerrard is superior in every other way.

Sorry Hlebio but your verdict on Gerrard is plainly tainted. He's one of, if not the best midfielder in the world when you look at what he constantly delivers. You just need to remember that he is actually human and can have off days just like every other player on the planet. BUt he is the heart-beat of Liverpool FC and constantly delivers a very high level of service in numeral ways... no matter how Benitez decides to use him or tells him how to play.

As for Alonso vs Gerrard. Gerrard is completely the better player overall, however on his day Alonso is a specialist and no one can beat his passing ability. He just hasn't been delivering that "first season" performance for sometime now.

It'd be a shame if he went, but only if he didn't want to go. His potential ability is great and something that every team desires, but to me personally it doesn't look like he's happy here. I think he wants a move to Spain and I bet he'd reach his peak over there with the slower pace.

Nope, not joking at all. I happen to think Gerrard is perhaps the most overrated player on the planet.

One of the best things Liverpool could do, for their chances of winning the Prem, is selling Gerrard. He's a headless chicken in central midfield, and not anywhere near the class of Roy Keane, Vieira or Ballack in their pomps. For the price some teams would pay for Gerrard you could get 2-3 excellent players and really thrust your chances of winning the league forward a few notches.

You're either a wind up merchant or you belong in an institution!

Ronaldo is the best Midfielder in the world. Gerrard is the best in his position though.

Scholes for me. And Fabregas. There are others in other leagues, but those 2 spring to mind immediately.

I thought about Carrick, his long passing is incredible, as is his short passing into feet. But Scholes on his day has the best range and didn't want to name two from Man Utd, you know fans of other teams just get jealous.

thats funny, im fairly sure just because all those goals tackles longballs and assists still count, even though they are infront of a camera.
Its odd you mention camera, are you claiming that hes a bit of a show off for the camera, im just wondering, since hes a very private man and all who just wants to play football.

He offers little else? Well he offers passion and leadership.. and then theres the fact hes already giving the assists passes goals and tackles.. is there anything else a footballer needs to offer on the pitch?

I'm a Liverpool fan but have to say that Alonso's passing ability is not near that of Scholes. Infact, the only thing that Alonso has on Scholes is tackling. Btw, the best passer of a ball i've ever seen has to be Molby.

You cant beat Gerrard for all around spirit (and hauling his team back from a losing position to win) - however while he is undoubtedly excellent and would probably start in any team you care to mention , he would lose that "x factor" if he was taken out of the Liverpool side

Im not knocking him for it, Im just stating he wouldnt be the same player he is today (priceless to Liverpool)

How long will he stay there if they cant challange for the EPL though - it will be another couple of years undoubtedly, but personally think he wants to challange for all the big prizes every year not just one every now and then (whether its here or abroad)

Fabiano (Sevilla) is being linked heavily with Man Utd (along with Spurs, Madrid, and a few others) seems to be some confusion over the price though - anywhere from £7m due to buy out clause to around £40m incl 3rd party ownership hogwash
