Modric? Martinez? M'Vila?

Anyone who can improve central midfield really.

One more midfielder and a new left back and I would be happy for next season. I kind of enjoyed being near the top of the table with a team that was no where near as talented as City's.

Anyway, we just need to play the waiting game until the Spanish and Italian economies go kaputsky. Offer them a fiver for Messi.

Yeah, we seem pretty keen on Baines.

There's also talk of us being interested in a guy called Kevin Strootman, who is a midfielder for PSV, but I know absolutely nothing about him! He could be interesting.

A rubber duck would improve our midfield :p

:D

I doubt fergie would sign modric unless he was ~£25 million. Not worth that much more. Levy is going to end up losing him for peanuts if he is not careful. He wants champions league football and wanted to leave Tottenham last year by all accounts.

how will he lose him for peanuts?

I think a bid of 30M will tempt Levy to sell, and I would say that's a fair price in today's market. He reached his peak value last year and his stock has gone down after a poor (by his standards) season, he is also 26 now so isn't getting any younger. Chelsea was in for him last year but I doubt they will be now, and I struggle to think of other teams who could spend more than that who need him.

If he wants to leave the club and Levy won't sell him then I doubt tottenham will get the best out of him. What do you do then? He has 3 years left on his contract (I think) so they could either let it run down or they could offload him with everyone knowing that he wants to leave and is worth very little to Tottenham if he stays.

The Guardian just uploaded a short but interesting article about BR's issues at Liverpool. Do you think it's likely he'll be taking Michel Vorm, Leon Britton or Joe Allen? Everytime i've seen them play they've dominated the midfield in opposition.
Vorm's good enough to be playing first team football but not ahead of Reina at Liverpool. As for the other two, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to Swansea and have only watched highlights of their games on MOTD but I understand we were after Joe Allen last season so I would expect us to bid for him over the summer.

levy said last summer he would let him rot in the reserves and i believe him when he said this as a last resort. more likely though, is we'd either get a player + cash or we'd get what levy wants for him.

as an indicator levy was offered £45m last year and he didn't want that. he'd be silly to turn down that kind of cash if offered again though but he wont go for >£30m.

Please just a central midfielder and I'm happy! I'll take a few youth signings on top of that. I'm guessing kagawa is pretty much done.
Do you both mean a midfielder in addition to Kagawa? As in a solid, tackling defensive-esque midfielder to Kagawa's creative midfielder?

I don't think it matters how much money Fergie has, if he doesn't think there's value in the market he won't sign anyone for the sake of signing them, to appease the fans or to spend what transfer budget he has. He's said this before hasn't he? When we've not signed many players over a summer.

Hazard against Montpellier. Never seen one player fouled so much in one game!

Feels appropriate:

I've seen him play a couple of times. Looks decent enough, but I really haven't seen enough to pass a proper judgement on him.

Some in the media and in here suggest Kagawa is as much a 2nd striker as he is an AM, so if/when Utd finalise the deal will Rooney be puhed further forward with perhaps 2 from Young /Nani/Valencia on either side?

If this is the case then two AM's like Kagawa and Cleverley wiht Carrick ahead of the back four would imo be a good 1st team (ignoring the defence obviously)

I personaly think Kagawa will be an AM, which possibly means a 4th striker being purchased, I wouldnt be surprised if a box -to -box midfielder arrives too (especially if Anderson is to be sheperded out the back door at the same time).

However with no real backup for Evra at Left back, I would suspect this is the next priority this summer. Media speculation about Baines and Modric is just that, (without knocking either player) I dont believe Utd are looking at either player.

Clyne was linked earlier in the summer, but that has gone quiet for some time

Relatively speaking if anyone is purchased they are going to be moderate to cheap purchases rather than mega-names imo with priority as follows LB, striker (as Fergie always prefers to have 4) and then another midfielder.

Of course it is highly dependant on who is actually available and cost once club knows Utd are interested, but 3 additions incl Kagawa would be a good summer, 4 (which is absolute max to join 1st team, not incl Powell if this happens as he will be immediately loaned back) would be brilliant.

All the above baring in mind Utd are waving good bye to (or have in the last 12 months) PIG, Berba, Owen, Pogba, Morrison & De Laet for definite with question marks over Fryers (has he re-signed yet?), Anderson, Park and potentially Fletcher due to illness

Admittedly majority of those barely played a game, but its still 40% of the squad

edit - you are dead right about "value in the market", without a doubt. This is why (I dont believe) SAF will be that bothered about the Euros, because the liklihood of the players being in the national teams is small imo (baring injuries)

Journalist from the Times has said Lambert has apparently walked away from Norwich after they turned down an approach from Villa.

Apparently Chelsea's wage bill for the 2010-11 season was the highest in the premier league, even higher than City:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18248540

That can surely only have increased with the signing of Torres, and presumably increase again when they sign Hazard. Also, according to the article City spent 114% of their income on wages! I fail to see how Chelsea and City are going to abide by the FFP rules if they continue this way.
