I'm thinking about getitng some new alloy wheels. These are not aftermarket they are Ford.

Now, would you declare them?

Say I did have an accident would the insurance company just cover everything bar the alloys even if they did find out they were not standard as such.

It depends on the insurance company, some even want to know what optional extras you have on a car (things like alloys, spoilers, factory nav etc). It's all well and good people saying "Don't bother" but there is always the small chance you might be stitched up over it. Up to you really.

Kind of like this

Anyone else do anything better?

Its a modification to the car. since the car never came with them then id declare them to be on the safe side. they probs wont put your premium up anyways.

Oh i see there from Peterlee..there propably nicked lol

But they're still Ford alloys. For all they know they could have come with the car as an optional extra.

I don't remember having to tell your insurance company about optinal extras on the car. I presumed they were OK with them aslong as they were just optional extras and not aftermarket tat.

When working in an insurance company for a bit, when there were any aftermarket wheels involved, as long as they were less than 10% of the value of the car then they were covered on a like for like basis. With these being Ford's as well i would have thought they should be fine.

Presume you get locking wheel nuts and the like.

The tyre size is a little off at 195/45/R16, mine are 205/50/R16 on the Focus. It may make the car look a little more raised up from the ground. If you want Ford alloys I think the MP3 alloys can look good, or the ST170s if they can be found anymore.

ST170's are rare as rocking horse ****, same for MP3 alloys.

I thought it would make it seem a little lower since the profile is 195/45 vs 205/50

Would it adversly affect my Speedo readout and Mileage counter?

Didnt phrase that so well, the car will be lower but the gap between the wheel and the arch will also be increased. Id imagine thered be a few cm difference in diameter plus the speedo will under read by ~5%.

Alloys only add an extra £20 to my insurance...

There are sometimes 2 options... "aftermarket alloy wheels" and "manufacturer alloy wheels" (or something like that).... You'll be wanting to go for the 2nd option. :)
