Almost Titanic 2

Really don't get how or why they are comparing this to Titanic. Loads of big ships have sunk since then in similar situations to it - some with massive loss of life - but this is It's not even remotely close. It rolls over a bit right next to the beach and it's being called the next Titanic?!? The media really boggles my mind sometimes.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The media needs reigning in, it's got totally out of hand the way that they report stuff nowadays.
Sensationalism sells!

Boat starts to rollover in relatively shallow, warm water within paddling distance of land.. Yes, clearly Titanic 2.

Why is it that the general public seems to be made up of herding sheep that just Panic first and then blame someone else for their lack of common sense.

Grab a life jacket, ride the ship down or get to where you can get in safely and swim ashore. Not exactly rocket science.

I cant imagine going on any other type of holiday!

You live on a world full of some incredible landscapes, fascinating history, beautiful weather, interesting cultures etc. etc. etc. and you can't imagine anything better than a fortnight on a posh floating butlins?

That's a rather depressing thought IMO :(

You do get off the boat you know?

Blimey!

I'd have thought that with all the gizmos you've got these days (digital maps of reefs, depth gauges, sealing off of compromised compartments, ballast, etc) it'd be pretty hard to run aground and make it list soo much!

Yes, because the whole point of going on a cruise, ISN'T to go to many places in one holiday, its to stay inside the ship, never venturing outside onto the deck and avoiding windows.

It's hardly the Titanic 2

It's so close to land it had no chance of filly sinking.

I would say the deaths came from people getting hurt when the boat rolled over, so maybe some broken necks etc.

I travelled back from Zeebrugge on the Herald of Free Enterprise around a week previous to the sinking.
We also used to do regular stints on the Tor Lines going from Felixtowe to Gothenburg and Amsterdam back then (I was a musician)
I remember being stuck in port at Gothenburg when the bow door couldn't be closed and hearing passengers complaining about the delay. Two gems stuck in my memory 'why cant they fix it when we're at sea' and some kid bleating to her parents 'I'm going to miss my Charlies Angels now' :D

Its good to see these things are rare but it sucks accidents like this can happen even with technology in place. It will be nice to see seconds to disasters episode on this.. (if they bother)

A good portion of the boat is submerged. Do you realise how big these things are? They suspect numerous 'missing' could still be stuck dead or alive in the submerged sections.

To the people inside the boat it would have felt like a 'titanic'! - Apparently the boat listed really fast?

Don't think it's fair/right to compare it to the Titanic tbh.

Sad that people have lost their lives and it's a bit of a  that a modern ship could basically run aground.

At least it didn't happen out at sea.

Somewhat ironic, because had it been out at sea there would have been no danger of running aground.

Those in the engine room must have had the fright of their lives when that burst through.

For it to be the titanic 2, it would have to actually have been said that it was unsinkable, for the well you know...

Anyway, sounds like they hit a nasty sharp bit of rock frankly, though surely Sonar would have seen that and auto corrected, so im stumped.
