Almost Titanic 2

The Oceanos sinking off South Africa had some similar parallels regrding the abandonment of the Master:

Wiki:
Captain Yiannis Avranas was accused by the passengers of leaving hundreds behind with no one other than the ship's onboard entertainers to help them evacuate. Avranas claimed that he left the ship first in order to arrange for a rescue effort, and then supervised the rescue effort from a helicopter. Avranas stated, "When I give the order abandon ship, it doesn't matter what time I leave. Abandon is for everybody. If some people want to stay, they can stay.

I remember seeing the footage from that on a video program, only two of the crew actually stayed behind to help. Shocking!

Im no maritime expert but daaayuuummm - I cant BELIEVE this has happened. Im not passing judgement on the crew because we dont know the facts yet but I will say that I will be shocked if this was caused by a mechanical or computer fault on the ship.

As you all have said - these bathtubs use very precise GPS-guided autopilots and have advanced sonar etc to check depth and all that jazz. And yea those areas are very well surveyed.

These things carry airplane-style digital recorders that let you play back 100s of parameters like engine speed, prop speed, heading, control inputs and also voice recordings from the bridge. So lets see what that reveals.

To detect underwater hazards AHEAD of the vessel a device such as SONAR is required, which it is unlikely to have.

I know little about why it doesn't but, could you explain why it wouldn't have one? for such a size, cost and life aboard, I find it confusing why any method of warning ahead wouldn't be installed.

Of course, I don't know the range of said SONAR and I can completely understand that even if something was picked up, it would take a long, long time to do anything about it.

I think the crew knew the danger. But the power failure that has been reported prevented them from doing anything. And when the power returned they reacted but it was too late.

I don't think there was a pwer failure before the grounding. The ship hit the reef, the power went out. The Captain made an announcement on the public address announcing the power failure.
The power failure was caused by the grounding.

Pretty shocking stuff. I can definitely see prosecutions happening specifically against the company as some of the passengers have said there was no emergency lighting inside the ship.

I think what looks like a rock is actually just part of the hull crumbled up as you can see the jagged metal edge of it at the bottom. It's just rust on the outside giving it that brown look.

Its funny the captain is still claiming he was the last to leave, when three survivors and two dead bodies have since been found still on the ship. They obviously made no effort to make sure everyone was accounted for, if you even believe they hung around that long

It's unbelievable that this relatively new vessel bestowed with so much tech got into any danger in the first place, let alone take several lives. Just sheer incompetence from the Captain and crew really.
