I still haven't been able to watch season 2, it just doesn't seem to grab my interest like the first season did.

Not sure if it's the reason but in my mind casting a talentless waste like Mackie as a lead wasn't ever going to go well.

Darn, what a waste. It was enjoyable.
Not surprised it was cancelled. Second season being a mash of second and third novels, was an indication. With only three novels, nowhere to go once they'd mashed elements of the third novel in to the second season of the TV series; not without just making it up as they went along, a la Game of Thrones.

Agreed, I have never been a fan. Watched the first episode of s2 and gave up.
I gave up after three episodes, I just couldn't get on with Mackie.
Such a shame as the first season was fantastic.
I'll be honest, didn't even start it once I knew Mackie was the lead. I say this as someone who watched the first season twice in a month I liked it that much.

You're not short on other choices thenDamn. I havent watched season 2 yet but season 1 was the best thing id watched in a very long time. I love dystopian futuristic stuff.

Most of it is a bit janky, I enjoyed the cyberpunk cityscape setting.
But any recommendations are welcome!

I mentioned this in another thread and it reminded me of this one, but honestly the woman playing Kovacs' at the start of season two was actually pretty solid. I'd much rather have seen her in the role for the full season, I felt she was really damn good and probably damaged Mackies follow up in some respects. She was far more convincing for the 1/3 of an episode she was in than Mackie was in the three episodes I watched, and I doubt he improved.
