Am i being oversensitive or do i have a point here

Pretty much unanimous YANBU, OP.

If 3 people share the same language, then it's common courtesy to speak in that language when the 3 of you are together.

I did feel a bit mumsnet posting

But its just wound me up cause i deliberatly didnt say anything thinking it was a one off deal.

bringing it up later isn't ideal as then you can come across as moaning a bit thus the sensitive comment

call it out when it happens next time, as in interrupt them with a smile 'ENGLISH ONLY! come on guys I'm here too' :) etc.. I used to work with a bunch of French people and initially had to put a stop to stuff like that when out of drinks on a Friday

Nope I am with you, it's rather rude. It's the same in food shops etc when the public facing staff all speak to each other in polish for example instead of English infront of customers.

depends, not so fussed about that if they're just shouting instructions to someone else as it is easier for them... bit different to a social setting where you're excluded from the conversation by default

Yeah thats why im not too sure if j knew they knew eacb toher well id have said something (im a sarcastic **** by nature )

But i assumed it was friend from back home so its only now im realiseing and talking abour it.

And a bit miffed

Its not you, its inconsiderate.
I told my ex (Belgian) that it's not nice when she's having a conversation with friends in her native language and someone can't join in. She understood (and it helped her English).

Some nationalities are more direct and won't change unless you say something. Even then they may not think anything of it.

I guess now you know how most Londoners feel when rude people start talking English to each other...

(Bad joke, maybe should have said Bradford... :p)

It's rude.

I guess I am guilty of doing that too but mostly as a "conferring" thing. Like quickly checking something with a family member because it's easier. Even though they all know English too. This while someone else is present and watching. Idk, we never talk in English to each other, really. It just feels strange? Its not during a prolonged interaction with a third, it's more like while talking to a worker at a shop for example.

Other one is a dude.

hahaha :D

They are being highly ignorant imop.

I would not have it at all, speak English or don't ask me out for a drink.

OP has been language goose berried. :p

Very rude and inconsiderate, especially given the situation. When it's happened, both when out and at work, I polity ask them to speak English. Hasn't caused any issues, yet.

As a foreigner myself, I agree with the OP.

If it's just two of us, we'll speak Greek. If i am in the presence of a friend who is of another nationality, we'll speak in English, even between us so you know we are not bad mouthing you in secret :p

My gf is a bit guilty of speaking in Greek sometimes but I reply in English to force her to carry on in English.

I think it's multilingual people's way of saying "screw you lazy English person" without saying it. I've come across it too in the work place... its not rare!

As everyone else has mentioned it's damn rude. I have had this happen to me before and I usually tell both both people that if it continues I will leave. It may make it awkward for a little while but **** it, it's no worse than your current predicament.

The only way to restore the balance here is by defecating through their letterbox.
