Am I getting too old for PC gaming?

I just don't find it engaging at all any more. I have played Wow since day 1 and have became less engaged with it over time. Was initially excited about Cataclysm, but now really cannot be bothered with it.

As a result, I've decided to sell-up the gaming rig and out the money to somehting more interesting.

I did not enjoy the SC 2 single player because i thought the story was too immature. Have not realy been able to get into SC2. But i can not see me getting bored of quake live or counter strike type games, fps war games. As i got older i do not take it as serious as i did when i was younger and do not mind if i never play a new game, you won't be seeing me lining up outside a game shop the night before it is released for example.

But some of the young gamers are very fast but i think most of the time when i get beat is because i play fps mp games after a few beers :P

24 here and i'm finding it harder and harder to find a game i can play for more than 30 mins without getting sick of it!

I used to love MMOs but now i simply can't play them for more than an hour or 2 before getting bored,

As many have said in this thread games are picking up 'bad habits' off each other.. regenerating health which has already been mentioned, putting graphics before gameplay etc. Saw my friend playing the new medal of honour yesterday, i honestly couldn't tell if he was playing COD MW, COD MW 2, COD black ops, MOH.... they may as well all be the same game.

I tend to go through phases, the odd game grabs my attention (mass effect 1 and 2 at the moment) but at other times my computer will be used for nothing but browsing, watching films for weeks at a time.

I admit i didn't see the MP so i'll take your word on it :)

I don't see how it looks totally different though, i've played a little of both and i'd be pretty hard pressed to tell the difference (and i doubt i'm the only one).

FPSs need some fresh ideas, WW 2 and modern wars have been done to death.

The MP for MOH is developed by DICE and uses the Frost Bite engine, it looks superior to COD in every way

Its still a typical FPS online shooter but if you saw it running you would know what I mean

As i said i will take your word for it, in honesty i don't have any issues with how COD looks, it's pretty enough.

'Samey' gameplay is what i object to, still can't blame them, don't fix something that isn't borken.. if it makes you a load of money stay with it, it's only the customers who suffer.

Apologise for off topicness

These things go in phases I find. After 30+ years of gaming I've had the odd wobble where nothing interested me. Always came back to it though.

PC gaming specifically has got its hooks into me again. Since the latest generation of consoles I haven't played many PC games at all but I've come back to it with a PC upgrade and a long list of games I need to catch up on.

I do find a lot of PC games are hard to get drawn into, or hard to get engrossed in. As such, I haven't purchased any First Person Shooters in ages because I'm bored of those now and have got into Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, World of Warcraft.

Every so often I play Dawn of War 1, Company of Heroes, Soldiers amongst other RTS games - but I play these with friends and we all setup our PCs together on a LAN.

I only enjoy the likes of Killing Floor or Left for Dead 2 with friends as well, not by myself; but even trying very hard to get into them doesn't really last long :(

ON t'net I'm sick of getting my backside handed to me.

I really really really try my best, and still do VERY badly.

The moment I set up a server saying 'noobs only please' lots of professionals think 'YIPPEE' and jump on because they love mercilessly kicking the living sh** out of people that are rubbish :(

Reverting to single player or co-op against AI now :( I used to be able to hold my own, so think my awfulness is at least in part due to my age (mid 30s)

I'm 45 today :)

Still playing games, mostly on the PC. I've built all but one of my desktop PCs and I still love playing PC games.

My reactions probably aren't as quick as the younger players in games like COD and Battlefield, but I still enjoy playing them. I love cooperative games like Left 4 Dead where teamwork is more important than your ability to turn 180 degrees and headshot someone across the map.

In a way, it is. The thing that seperates the good from the rubbish is practice. People of our age just dont have the time to sit and play maps for hours on end. I get my butt handed to me on new games like the recent COH and MW2 but (with a little adjustment time for remembering how to twitch) I can still top the leaderboard for any DoD map and get accused of hacking when playing any classic CS, especially de-dust.

Its just the two kids, work, wife, life dont give you the time to sit and play for 8 hours straight muching pizza and chugging coke. God I miss it.

Picked up Rome Total War...

I'm going to force myself to like them by sticking with them.

Don't force yourself to like Rome, its an awesome game! :D

Yes the graphics dont stack up to what a modern GPU could manage, but that hardly matters. Once you get the idea behind the controls, its a superb blend of strategy and combat, never use the auto-resolve button for battles, always fight them yourself and you'll do better.

Once you've got the hang of it, play as the Britons. Nothing like conquering the known world with a bunch of unwashed barbarians :p

Your never to old to game, l'm 56yrs, and love a good shoot me up, keeps the brain box from stagnating, while having a drink of your fav-tipple - game on....

PS - loved Age of Empires.

Never been hooked into PC gaming ever since I went to uni. Before that I was obsessed with CS upto 1.6, anything after that is just dire!

WoW had me hooked when it first came out but after the initial heroin like period I've never found a game that I've really loved playing

Call Of Duty 2 and the developed cummunity that that particular gam eheld kept me captivated for far too many hours (scared to check on x-fire lol).

Once they started toi release COD every year the community has massively diluted, and it's bad for the series/genre/PC gaming in general.

Well im glad this threas was posted, i feel a bit better now:), especially seeing some of the younger gamers agreeing about playing games.

Im 49 now, and can remember a time when buying a new game was very exciting , akin to a kind of fever, it was great fun.
But now, i cant see to play a game for more than about half an hour without becoming incredibly frustrated.
The new COD, damn! how much can they chuck at you, its all a bit too much isnt it?, in your face constantly its ridiculous , and seems like a bit of a cheap tactic by the developers to me, or am i just too old?;)

Anyway i still buy the gear just purchased a kinect, although i have no idea why? oh well.
