Am I getting too old for PC gaming?

no offence but you bought 3 pretty crap games and

The one thing I've always disliked about these forums is how everybody passes opinion as fact. They may be "crap" by your standards, but a quick visit to metacritic will find plenty of views to the contrary.

They may not be to your taste, and they are by no-means perfect, but from a critical and objective standpoint, they aren't exactly "crap".

Harsh comment. But alas true at times!

Though not limited to this forum alone. God forbid that I've done this of course.;)

Lets try and keep it light hearted folks.

No the AI has not changed ever but young kids wont know this and find it all exciting. gaming experience tells me that only the online experience matters playing against other humans.

Dirt 2 is a good racing experience to be fair and has some good rallying levels but the other stuff is just typical specious AI.

Half Life 2 all episodes has its good side but the puzzles are for teenagers primarily. Episode 3 is taking forever and Valve are taking the preverbial.

BF3 is all that is worth waiting for. All other shooters have no presence any more.

And spore also rates very highly on metacritic, was that a good game?

those 3 games are slated pretty heavily in user reviews tbh.

review sites are bias ans **** these days.

Yes.
It wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but it was quite proficient. Yes, it was perhaps a bit of a disappointment, but no more so than Peter Molenaux's flawed (but also very proficient) works.

Hardly! The summary of user reviews for Crysis on Metacritic is "Generally favorable". The same goes for AC. As for Bioshock? It's quite possibly the furthest thing from being "slated pretty heavily". I'd wager that it ended up on more than a few folk's GOTY lists upon launch.

I know this is a fasionable opinion but I don't see much evidence for this (besides the Gamespot/Kane & Lynch fiasco, but bear in mind, they did publish that review, and moreover, it was a pretty fair review at that). I see fairy credible websites praise one game from a particular publisher and slate another (sometimes even within the same franchise! Check out Eurogamer's U-turn on the AC games)

I know there's no real mathematical/empirical way to account for taste, etc, and this is probably the real flaw with games journalism (and reviews in particular), but to say, and I'll paraphrase you for a second "no offence, but you bought 3 pretty crap games" is folly of the highest possible order.

Well to keep reaction times up, i'd reccomend a Can'a Redbull. the thing with reaction speed is that it improves vastly depending on how many hours you clock on that particular game, as well as other factors such as sensitivty of your mous
e. More you game, the more pro-like you'll feel. my 2pence.

If your 38 you can scale back on the twitch reflex bash the buttons type games, it gets repetitive after a while.
Sounds like you might need a game with a story or some grander purpose to it so yea you officially old and should light a pipe, slippers and a plate of crumpets before any gaming is done.

I was speaking to someone 58 earlier in a mod for bf2. Those games are measured in hours, its definitely a slower pace so kinda fits your post there.
I dont think crysis was bad but it wasnt a classic, if the graphics or physics didnt impress the gameplay wasnt anything new or special, it definitely ranked as a 'good' game though

Bioshock has a decent story, quite a few people liked its design so your pushing the limits of mainstream games in your leisurely pace no doubt. (I wasnt that fussed on bioshock fighting either though)

I thought HL2 was excellent. Im going to go in the opposite direction and recommend left4dead and if that doesnt work its going to be something very particular or a sports game if thats your thing

it also favours teenagers as reflexes are literally fastest when young. Also technical crap like latency network times, its not gameplay really. I dont think the OP wants to be 'pro'

I find the day of quake where best when there was a bigger community and less games to choose from it kept things interesting having a large community. Nowdays there is saturation in each genre and there is small fan bases over each product it's even worse on consoles as after the next big game is released they all jump ship and the mp side dies on older games.

Long live Quake

I'd second that. I was in a clan at the time & just generally found other players easier going & you could have a laugh with & just muck about in-game. I used to love bf2 later also but that feeling of having a laugh wasn't there anymore. It's all too serious & "distant" these days.

my dads 43 and very recently just started to get back into gaming, now he has an Xbox 360, PS3 and every decent game currently released to date so nope your never too old for it lol.

Gonna be giving him my PC gaming rig once my new one arrives too he'll never be off it and end up with square eyes xD
