i'm really tempted to move over from X99 to Ryzen am insane to even think of doing it?

currently have a 5930K at 4.2ghz 99% of the time im gaming,

but have hit 100% on all cores/threads on some of the games i've played

please give me some advice/sense! :)

I'm still playing games on a 7+ year old x58 setup so I can't see yours being too bad , unless you're going to gain a decent performance increase then id stick with what you have, or if you have the cash burning a hole in hour pocket then go for it heh

I'd thought the same and my 5820k does 4.7ghz, pointless though really as I doubt there'll be any noticeable difference to the eye for gaming.

I don't know why you would bother unless you just fancy a new toy.

I am waiting for the next gen or Ryzen in 2018 with the hope of even more IPC improvment and higher clocks - then it might be worth changing from my 5820k.

It depends. X99 is at the end of the road. If you were able to sell it before Ryzen, you may get better resale value for it.
Then you would be on a new platform that has more life/upgrades down the road.
But of course we don't really know how Ryzen performs yet. You could always wait it out, as I personally expect new/used X99 Cpu's to plummet in value, so you could pickup a cheaper 6900K in a few weeks maybe.

I think that is the downside of new hardware with lots of hype. Even is you have an amazing system you would still want to at the very least try it, just to see if it's better.

If you have the money, then do it. But don't get rid of your current system before you are absolutely sure which you prefer better..

Agreed, would be a waste in my opinion. Is it causing your gpu/s to drop performance?

Witcher 3 on my 5930k runs spot on and is not maxing out my cpu even with both my 1080's running maxed out.

Sure try it if you really want too but I'd just overclock your 5930k a bit more. 4.2ghz isn't really pushing it that much.

Unless you can sell up and get a performance increase for minimal outlay I probably would just hold onto what you have.

I am running W3 on a Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770 at qHD with a GTX1080 and it seemed to hold decent enough performance.
