i'm really tempted to move over from X99 to Ryzen am insane to even think of doing it?

currently have a 5930K at 4.2ghz 99% of the time im gaming,

but have hit 100% on all cores/threads on some of the games i've played

please give me some advice/sense! :)

Look at it this way, you have a six core CPU, your only real upgrade is an eight core. For half the price of an Intel eight core CPU you could buy a Ryzen 1700X plus a high spec mobo and use your current ram, then sell the 5930K/mobo and make back half what you spent on the Ryzen bits.

The obvious caveats are that if you only play games it's unlikely you will see any benefit, plus if you use more than two GPUs it's a non starter.

I think that is the downside of new hardware with lots of hype. Even is you have an amazing system you would still want to at the very least try it, just to see if it's better.

If you have the money, then do it. But don't get rid of your current system before you are absolutely sure which you prefer better..

In a nutshell, EPEEN SWINGING

Interesting post...by the fact you've created a thread I would say that you've already set your sights on the move but struggling to actually make the change or looking for "approval" lol - would be interesting to see how your existing systems stacks up though.

ingames no point. the intel will probably be faster over 99 percent of games anyway.in most of games benchies i seen that arent bat poop crazy the intel chips are ahead. you will see soon anyway.just wait for the reputable realistic none affiliated benchmarks for decent games then decide.

He would have to wait until like 2020 or later for that to become a financially better move than switching to Ryzen lol.

I don't know man. You are looking at around £500 to go to Ryzen, and that wouldn't be high end. That's assuming he keeps his ram. He then needs to sell his gear, probably at a huge loss etc.

I would just wait for the 5960x to drop in at around £350.

That's sort of what I am doing. I've got two rigs, a 5820k and 2680V2 Xeon (8c 16t Ivy @ 3.3ghz) so more than anything I am hoping on better thread support, and leave them both well alone :D

Because of what I have Ryzen is an upgrade, but nowhere near as significant and upgrade that it would really need to be at the price. It means pulling a monkey out of my pocket for two more cores. Yeah, hard...
