Am I missing something here?

Really? You can't work it out?

Xbox - £200
TV - £250
Couple of games - £80
Live sub (1 year) - £40

Total = £570

That's as you say a "cheap branded" TV (which there were over 130 5 star ratings for).

It would have been very easy for me to spend an extra 50 or 100 quid on the same size screen, hence my £600-£700 figure

I like how you added two games (at full RRP) and a live sub. Also, where did you buy your 360 for £200? You just love getting ripped off.

This has nothing to do with how a game looks.

42" 600hz Samsung plasma - £360
Xbox Elite with 2 old games- £100
Halo Reach - £37

£497

Thats quite a way off the £600-£700 you said it costs.

It's called an Xbox 360 and at every single retailer in the country it's £189 or £199.

That's the 250GB Slim (which you need as having 4GB as your hard drive is useless).

I'm pretty sure they stopped selling the old elite models at retail stores now.

And why wouldn't I add 2 games at 40 quid each? That's what they were! Oh sorry are we counting pennies now? £39.98. That better?

Stop picking at straws man. My prices are perfectly on par

What what else do you expect? If they put high end graphics chips in them they'd cost a fortune and it would defeat the entire point of a console.

AdladUK. I understand that. You understand that. But unfortunately, there are people who are not "techies" and believe that if a TV does not carry a big brand name tag, that it absolutely must be "crap".

Thanks man, appreciate your post. Least a few people in here are reasonable

So my PC cost me £2000 because I bought 20 games with it?

You're talking crazy now.

To be honest i'm more impressed with what they manage to achieve on consoles these days simply because the hardware is so limiting. They certainly don't look anywhere near as good and given the choice I would get a game on the PC but the draw distances on games like Red Dead really are impressive.

Huh?

I'm not the one talking crazy

I bought 2 games with my Xbox, is that so out of line with what a normal consumer would do?

And FYI most mid/high-end PC graphics cards come with 1 or 2 of the latest games for free. Really don't get the point you're trying to make...

I'm trying to show you that a person who wanted to start from scratch, and wanted to play Reach, doesn't have to pay £700 from the privilege. He could be paying less than £500 and thats including a 42" Plasma TV.

That's a good point.
Also need to remember a lot of people have had their consoles for that long. They'll be able to play games like F1 2010 in the knowledge that their game looks and plays identical to every other Xbox users game.

Can anyone honestly say a 5 year old graphics card will give the same experience as the latest £500 graphics card on the PC? Just need to look at the last few pages in the PC thread to see people complain that their 2 year old that cost them £300-400 might not be able to run it at an acceptable frame rate at the resolution they want.

There's no doubt PC games look better than Xbox games but keeping up with technology comes at a big price and the minimum requirements are constantly advancing.

The funny thing is that once you've paid for the screen, console, games, Live sub, you're talking £600-£700, not £200.

Anyways I give up. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it at the moment. Will test a Blu-ray on the screen soon, if it's awesome I'll scrap the 360, if it's crap I'll just run the console on a HDMI supported monitor

Someone stated that £1000 PC is better than a £200 console.

You then said that £200 is wrong, and that it cost £600-£700.

I then proved that it costs much less and thats including a TV.

What you payed has nothing to do with the original argument.

You didn't really prove anything as your prices were based on an old Xbox model that someone may or may not be able to buy. My prices were more realistic of what you would end up paying today if you wanted to "experience" the 360 from scratch. Hell, I just did it, I should know.

And yeah I agree the price thing has nothing to do with the original argument

Blimey this thread is full of fun!

To the OP, it might of been an idea to look at a 360 at a friends house running games or some decent videos so you would have an idea what to expect before you purchased it. Take it for what it is though, you wont get uber high res high AA like a decent PC on a £200 console, but most games look fine compared with the PC version. Not sure on your set up and how far back you sit playing but if you consider that ideally you should be several feet away from the screen, with PC gaming you are mostly a foot or 2 away from your monitor at most. I used to have a "cheapo" TV for my PS3 and TBH on my more expensive it does look a bit better (blacks mostly) but again its not very noticable and your TV should be fine. I just hope that you never want to purchase a Wii and run it on your new TV lol.
My Friend is an avid PC gamer and the only games he has been impressed with was Gears of War 2, Alan wake, and Kameo (at release) on the 360 and GOW3, KZ2, Heavy Rain, GT5(vids) and Uncharted 2 on the PS3. If all that matters to you is graphice then you may be a bit letdown, but just play the games on your nice comfy sofa a good distance from the TV and im sure you will start to come round.

I think taking TV's/monitors/peripherals into account here is stupid.

For a mere comparison, we should be saying £200 for the console as it is, against £xxxx for PC hardware on a new build.

Because yes, YOU may need to buy a TV and what not, but in simple terms, the console costs £200, against £xxxx for PC hardware. So yes, what really did you expect for such a price.

Seriously what's wrong with the prices I gave? I'll re-do them with just Reach:

Xbox - £200 (this is the standard retail price for the new Xbox model, check OCUK)
TV - £250 (this is what people refer to as a "cheap crap model" so I'm being fair if anything)
Reach - £40 (just Halo, retail price give or take a quid)
Live sub (1 year) - £40 (what use is it not being able to play online with your friends, so you need this. Plus purchasing on a yearly rate is far cheaper than month to month)
HDMI cable - £10

That's £540 with a "crap" TV. My £600-£700 is perfectly feasible if you were to get a higher priced brand name screen

£1k PC is better than a £200 console.

Then you said this...
The funny thing is that once you've paid for the screen, console, games, Live sub, you're talking £600-£700, not £200.

What YOU payed has nothing to do with anything.

Whether you got the £200 slim is irrelevant.

If we were going by your logic, then You could have bought a 3D TV, 10 games, and then said this...

"The funny thing is that once you've paid for the screen, console, games, Live sub, you're talking £3000, not £200."

Do you understand?
