Am I missing something here?

Also, why get a TV and not an adaptor cable to plug an xbox into a PC monitor and some speakers?
This is what a friend of mine did, he enjoys his 360 and doesn't even own a TV.

I was playing it on my other 23" monitor that has HDMI input. Then I got the 32" delivered and all hell broke loose

The base core machine comes in at £200. Which is ****ING useless without the other stuff.

What's so hard to understand about that?

You need the game. You need the Live sub (to play multiplayer). You need the freakin' TV. Without those things the console does nothing.

Not hard to understand at all, so using this I'll create a PC scenario.

Say I build a gaming rig where the HARDWARE +OS costs me £800. I then need to buy a monitor, some games, maybe a pad for some games, a mouse/keyboard...etc...these items will put more cost onto my total yes, but they do nothing in terms of changing the hardware inside my PC. Yes, I may need some of them to use my PC, but they do not improve my PC's performance potential as it is the hardware inside the case that does all the business.

So when we are arguing the £200 for the xbox, we mean that all the technology that governs how well the 360's graphics look is inside the xbox itself, which costs £200. Yes you may need a game or two, and a live subscription, and whatever else you may fancy, but none of these impact the performance potential of the hardware inside the xbox, which is producing the graphics you find unsatifying.

That is all we are saying.

Oh come on this thread is so obvious. Must try harder. Shock horror 5 year old console looks **** compared a newer specced PC. How can anyone that claims to be atleast slightly technically competent not know that already. In the last 5 years you can barely go out without seeing one on demo somewhere. Surely everyone has atleast some idea of how the games look.

The most laughable thing about this thread is the OP seems to have been taken by surprise by the issue.

Next time don't research your TV properly for 5 star reviews, think about what the hell you are buying and what you want it for.

Halo will be **** anyway no matter what card and pc set up you have. I'd rather see like for like pictures of the same game than a poor looking FPS to a RTS game.

It also makes me laugh when people say the TV doesn't matter, yet for pc gaming in the monitor section people will use an atomic clock to try to find a hint of ghosting or lag. :D;)

Going round in circles a bit here.

The point is, a real-world scenario starting from scratch.

To experience Halo and 360 gaming from scratch at a reasonable level it's gonna cost me £600.

To experience PC gaming (with any major new release) at a reasonable level it's gonna cost me £1,000.

That's all I'm saying.

I find xbox looks better on a monitor through vga than on any TV i've seen them on. Maybe because it's still at full res but the screen is only 24".

Monitor only cost about £200 when i got it, (can get em for a lot less now), xbox cost a bit less than that and vga cable was about £10.

So price for me to enjoy Halo from scratch was about £420, but I also use the monitor for my pc.

But I've already proven it can cost -£500 with a 42" Plasma.

Taken by suprise that the 360 is 5 years old and would never look as good as a new PC? No.

Slightly taken back by just how bad Halo looks after reading/hearing about all the hype? Yes.

Also pretty shocked at how much the quality decreases when changing from a 23" computer monitor to a 32" LCD

I thought it was common knowledge that consoles suck unless you are cheap or plan on having freinds around to play with you.

Thats a bit fk'in harsh. Doesn't mean your cheap because you buy a console? Most people dont want to spend £300 on one graphic card! I dont blame them either! I LOVE pc gaming you cant beat it but i can see why some people cant afford retarded prices for hardware along with ALL the problems that come with it. Compared to a £300 console you can play ANY games on with hardly any problems.

Most of that hype surrounds the multiplayer side of the game or how good it looks compared to Halo 3.

If you bought Reach thinking it would look as good as a current PC title you should've done more homework ;)

And what difference does that make to the graphics?

I think you must either be a. trying to **** me off, or b. just completely ignoring the point I'm trying to make.

My whole argument about price was pointing out the current day scenario if someone wants to experience 360 or PC gaming from scratch.

This had nothing to do with graphics

And why wouldn't someone go to a supermarket and buy an Elite for £100?

And it has everything to do with graphics. Thats what the thread is about.

Because they don't sell them?

I was at ASDA yesterday and all they had were the new slim model 360s in 250GB version (what I bought). Same for Blockbuster.

The model you are talking about is obsolete. They are transitioning over (have done so already I think) to the new slim models are scraping the old ones
