Am I the only person who doesnt care about fan noise?

I don't mind abit of noise, but for next gen will buy more wisely. Triple Titan x with reference design was loud to say the least. Really down to my choice of case being the issue as they should be under water but meh.

With the 1080 using less power, should translate to less heat and therefore less noise so looking forward to them.

It's natural that the old forum members care less about noise, as their hearing has deteriorated over the years. Put them back in their 20 or 30 year old body and I bet they'd get annoyed with fan noise!

Used to have a thunderbird 1.33ghz with a deltafan cooling it, was like an all day drilling trip to the dentist :D

If gaming I would have thought most have the speakers loud enough to drown out the fan noise. And of course if you're gaming with headphones you shouldn't care less as long as the PC is not near others.

Also, you will adapt to fan noise to the point that you won't hear it unless you specifically think about it(or if it's super loud), then you hear it again. My brother loves movies and he tends to pick up on all the noises around the room, outside the room, outside the house where as other don't notice it until he mentions it then you hear it for a while until you tune out again.

So, I come to the conclusion being an** about fan noise is psychological - nothing wrong of course but some just tend to notice background noises more than others.

If in an office you might not notice the PC's running until there's a power cut then you realise how noisey the office is.

I also actually think people run more fans than needed.

I have a Phantek Primo and it has fans on all mounting ports. My x99 system is watercooled and I have a large radiator across the top of the case, on that I have 3 fans that gently blow upwards. slowly and almost silently. The other 5 fans in the case dont run AT ALL.

The result is my case is quiet and has remained almost dust free for months.

Its only really from my own stupidity that I ended up in this position (i messed up my fan settings and never bothered to fix em), yet its been totally fine for 7 months like this :)

I don't mind the fan noise my gaming PC makes, especially as I don't notice it with the speakers on. I do like my htpc to be utterly silent and have been having fun making it fanless, bar a decent case fan which is inaudible anyway.

I'm generally not too bothered by system noise either, especially when gaming. I'd rather keep my case and components well cooled at the expense of a little noise. That said I do find any kind of high pitched and rattling noises annyoing, which is why I always try to get some decent case fans which should only be making a gentle whooshing sound. I also use open headphones which means too much noise becomes an issue.

I also have the same opinion when it comes to power consumption, although I do appreciate the fact that lower power consumption will usually mean less heat, which is always a good thing.

All of this is only applicable to a gaming PC though, for anything else I'd want near silence and very frugal power consumption.

I used one of the all in one water coolers (Corsaid H50.1) some years ago and must admit I was glad to go back to air cooling. Hearing a rush of air going through a rad isn't good when you're just web browsing - that's more annoying than a GPU fan running at 70% while gaming.

Passive here, can't stand any sort of PC noise, even AIOs drive me nuts and most folks think they're quiet.

I only game with headphones late at night so as not to wake others, apart from that all my PC use is through large floor standing 2 channel hi-fi speakers.

I don't, but other's can hear my 980ti at night, so i have to cap the speed in afterburner.

I was told they thought it was an airplane

I like a little bit of whoosh from the box, it lets me know the components are working away as they should. 8 Noctua Industrials ramping into the 50% zone gives a nice powerful hum like a good engine ticking over.

And once the gaming headset goes on, I hear nothing but the soundtrack.

i do care about noise a lot, because i dont use the PC just for gaming, and i leave it on like 24/7, so yea i like quiet rigs, i hate noisy ones, thats why i always pick custom GPUs, i never owned a reference card.
the thing i do not care about though is power consumption, i get it's vital for mobility/server, but i find it really useless for desktop, and ppl who make big fuzz about it in desktop GPUs

Idle/browsing - has to be silent. Gaming, don't really care as would have headset on. I used to have a server under my desk in the bedroom, 6 x 10k RPM disks whirring away and a few unsympathetic fans. I find the noise soothing but women folk be women

The ops obviously never had a couple of reference GTX 480's in his rig, enough to send anyone mad!! :p

On a more serious note though, I don't know of many people who play with their headphones on, I'd much rather have speakers and a quiet PC.
