Actually I'd say 30 is no longer too old
By which I mean that I found there to be a certain stigma attached to gaming around the ages of 17-27 - at that age life is supposed to be about sex, drugs and rock&roll, not sitting in front of a computer for 6 hours straight. I got too embarrassed to ask my dad for consoles/games as presents etc.
When I was in my early 20s say, I'd actually lie about the amount of games I played, when I travelled to gaming events (and OcUK forum meets for that matter) I'd tell friends I was meeting friends from uni or something. But now at 30 I am self assured enough to admit to playing games, and chat to other people in their 30s at work about it.
My wife is generally OK about the amount of time I spend gaming, except for when I play online for a whole evening and 'ignore' her while she's watching some tat on TV.
